Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Closing stores

Anybody here worked in one of the Walmart stores that have closed? I'm wondering how employees find out the store will be closing? Are we told ahead a few weeks or only a few days?

I'm worried that my store will be closing soon due to dropping sales, and I'm not sure how much time I'll have to find other employment if or when it happens. Thanks in advance!

My div. 1 store closed and we had about 2 months notice to try to transfer to other stores. We had about 160 employees and everyone was able to secure a spot at another location.

If you store gets closed it will s---, but the loss of income should not be immediate if Walmart does what it has done in the past (often to comply with different laws). In every situation that I know of, associates have been paid for at least 2 months - sometimes working/sometimes not and then you are eligible for severance if you don’t get a transfer by the time your 2 months ends.

You will probably find out by surprise - if you are lucky before the press or your landlord, but realistically, same surprise.

The media knows before before we do. That’s how Walmart does everything. They don’t care about their people.
