Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Your Services are not required

Recently I got LR package and the very first paragraph mentioned that " My services are not required at Cisco". Now I got affected because the BU I worked had less market share. What it means that Cisco products are not required in market any more. My services are best and I will provide my services to other companies but truth is Cisco products are not any more required.

I got the same letter. Then 3 days later, I get an email/web letter thanking me for my 5 years of dedicated service or some BS like that telling me I could order my 5 year anniversary gift and telling me how much Cisco looked forward to the next milestone.

I got laid off years ago, and I have not yet read the LR letter. Didnt care what they wrote there. My time was not worth spending on Cisco anymore. I spent my time on new horizons. I started my new job again a few months later and my journey goes on.

Chambers ego got us into this mess. I hate to defend Chuck, but he got handed a company with a lack of innovation and pipeline for ten years in core business. He of course has made things worse with his crack math skills. Make no mistake, ego John, the cult leader, long ago abdicated any real job. The clowns around him led by the venal Rick Justice just made things worse.

There is not more value left in this company, with departure of John Chambers, the new management has created a service call LR on demand, they target individuals, based on s-xual orientation, their nationality, their family ties and connections to top executives. If you are not one of those with good connections then you are a dead meat and candidate for Lay Off or even termination.

Cisco is one of the lead causes of PTSD in San Jose.

The lack of heart from the company is stunning. The people deal.

My group was impacted in the Aug. 2016 layoff. I got the same type of webletter and it said the same thing. It hurt like nothing ever before and I was a grade 12 top performer with RSUs, etc. (at least my entire org was LR'ed so I guess it wasn't personal)

Keep your head up and stay positive! There is definitely life after Cisco and plenty of good places to work for someone with your skill set. If you are a hard worker good things will always come your way. Wish you the best of luck.....

It's harsh. I hope you'll land a better job. And this is all due to poor planning and utter greed of Cisco. While I understand that some products become obsolete with time, a good (even average) management will foresee these trends and make adjustments before it's too late. Here at Cisco, we let the product becomes obsolete, do a LR, use that money to buy another company to address a trending market segment. Innovation here is simply non-existent. And this is a company that invented a great chunk of networking protocols and brought some cool technologies to the industry. It saddens me to see what's going on at Cisco.
