FUTURE OF GE NUCLEAR

Does any body actually know what is happening at the Nuclear division at Wilmington, NC. ? They do not have any business other than selling fuel to few older plants. The guy running the place used to work at a water project in Algeria and has no nuclear experience. Practically unknown among industry heavy weights. Feel sorry for the guys who work there.

Jack Welch would have cut the Nuclear Division free from GE decades ago if he could have. But GE can never fully divest itself from the associated liability of the constructed fleet until they are all decommissioned or the brand is destroyed, thus Welch decided that instead the Nuclear operations should make as much money in services for GE for as long as it could to offset the liability... and its done exactly that... while the rest of GE Power is costing the company billions... its nuclear division actually turns a profit almost every year. This is exactly why when Westinghouse imploded... everything was sold and re branded except the Westinghouse Nuclear operations... you only saw the Westinghouse brand re-appear after a reasonable amount of time passed that they could claim disassociation with the liability of Westinghouse Nuclear. So complete divestiture of GE's nuclear operations is likely to come only when GE itself no longer exists.

Not so sure that’s good news. It just means Nuclear goes down with the ship.

Great news for folks at Wilmington, NC. Nuclear business is NOT chopped off as widely expected.

This is reality, not crazy at all. Folks at nuclear should think themselves very lucky if nuclear is not divested. The leader there who talks like a used car sales man during all hands meetings failed to secure a dime worth of business from a Canadian nuclear utility that is doing "eight billion" dollar of retrofit work. It is does not matter if the guy has been with the company for thirty years, he has no clout among nuclear heavy weights.

From a senior leadership, rumor is GE Hitachi will reduce the workforce by 20-30% starting end of November. This is crazy !

More bad information. Why do people like to spread miss information? As stated the guy running the place has been in the Nuclear business for years. Of course there is no new business, hence no new reactors.

Actually the guy running the place cut his teeth in Wilmington years ago. I've talked with some long service employees and he was well respected.
