Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Customers are NOT hearing “up to” 50% off

Local news station had our Holiday Blowout on the news but we got customers first thing this morning saying the news said everything at sears is 50% off and that is not what the news said!! Customers were mad because they refuse to hear the “ up to” in the commercial!

I heard from a coworker that some lady came into our store demanding that we price match because she saw an advertisement that Kmart (Australia) price matches.

At least jcp had a same sales increase this week. Something must be working over there. Their ceo is banking on sears demise and winning sales.

Yes, same associates. But the liquidators are absolutely in charge.

No, wrong. A liquidator does NOT take over. Same associates as always until store is closed.

Exactly what happens when a store closes is it really is no longer Sears controlling it. Sears sells the product to a liquidator who can mark the product at whatever price they wish.

@omz isn’t sears Canada liquidating?

I think when that happens the liquidators set the prices and actually take over the entire store processes including prices

Yes this is the calm before the storm. From what I gather, when you see Kmarts/Sears have these blowout sales the store closing is shortly happening afterwards.

People aren't fooled with the blowout sales. They are waiting for the end which is coming sooner than later. Then they will swoop in.

The truth is that it’s a sale meant to look like a liquidation. Much of the pricing was lower the week before the “blowout” started...

We’ve been busier than we have in years way up MTD. Of course the next closest store (about ten miles away) closed 2 months ago and we’ve been up since the announcement that they were closing it back in June. Store is in Michigan

@ype Don't know what store your in but ours has been wavy up and down with foot traffic, but end of the day we are around 25% down to last year MTD. We are probably down 30% to MTP. It's not the end of the month yet but starting off so down will not help we have to sell on BF along with the Thursday and Friday close to half a million good luck with that....

And yet we are packed and people are buying everything in the store. Go figure

I went around the store with a SNC on a break and found a lot of things that are on no discount at all via PLU. That's where the dishonesty really comes into play, as Sears advertised this event as "EVERYTHING".

Also, a lot of merchandise is priced at, near or even below of the "blowout" pricing at various points in the year. I've seen various key merchandise cheaper than it is now.

Local news in my area, Canada has been bashing the Sears sales, saying not only is Sears not discounting but its gouging.

Anyone know if that's true? Seems odd they would actually increase prices, but in this environment nothing would surprise me.

That's normal. We all hear the best part of the discount.
