Will there be RIFs in System Performance?

If you have been with the company for any length of time making good wages, and others in your dept have not been there as long and making way less than you...You are a target for Reduction In Force.
Folks who are performing but are deemed difficult to manage are also in jeopardy. If your Manager is stupid and incompetent, and peers/other managers/vendors are constantly coming to you for direction instead of them. You may make the list. There are many broken Managers at Wireless but very few leaders. The good ones saw the writing on wall and left.
RIF is a reduction in overall workforce due to surplused positions. This is more akin to "trimming the fat" of those "less agile" as some have put it. Basically, if you have a poor review history or are not performing up to par, you will be separated from the company. Net result is still the same, but different criteria used.

I think its all in the expense. If you are making top rate for your job, be prepared. Job performance is not as important as the bottom line at VZW now.
10%........one would hope it's a stacked layoff, meaning your performance matters. All of Network, including SP is on the block. So your director has 100 reports, 10 are let go on Thursday. If you are at the bottom of your group, and you know who you are, be worried. If you are a manager, with minimal reports..you are in danger of losing your job and your team to be merged with another. If you are SP, you still have a well needed skill set, no matter what they say about the wonders of SON.

SON is now SP, no need for RF nor SP departmentso. Operation teams can handle all of it
Anyone not interviewing at this point has a LOT of catching up to do.

Network Field Operations Technicians moved to Network Assurance Engineers as part of an overall plan. SON & SDN is already here. SP stopped doing significant functions of the job years ago and allowed contractors to do it instead. This was the beginning of the end. Some may get absorbed to RF, some may go to NA, while others will go out the door. Hope your PA ratings have been good. PIP's or a D are not helpful.
Of course these guys send out emails all day never visit customer location you can centralize that for the entire country

I was is SP for many years and was in the 2015 RIF at that time. VZ was moving the SP duties out to the field then. It WAS an important job at one time because nobody wanted to integrate the sites into the system after they were built. Too much keyboard work and driving. Now, they just go by the numbers and stats on the sites and soon the SON will get to the point it will take over those duties. I would be looking to branch into a different dept or take as many online courses on VZWEB that interest you.
Yes. With Self Optimization Network (SON) they plan to centralize many SP positions. They started transitioning part of the SP tasks to the Network Field Assurance Engineers in preparation for these changes.
