Can someone explain early release to me. I was affected and my last day they said is in January. If they early release does that mean my severance starts then or do they just pay you until your lay off date then your severance starts???

Right. If on Monday they tell you that your job is no longer needed, you are "released." You are paid "severance" pay until your official end date. If they told you your end date was January 2, you are still an employee, do not have to report to work, and you get paid. After January 2, your "severance" begins. I recommend contacting HR4U. There are meetings daily w/HR staff to explain all this in great detail to clear up any issues. They also recommended in the meeting to let an unemployment lawyer read the paper work before you sign it.
Severance will not start early.. you will still receive the same benefits as if you worked til January 2.
Early release is you are still employed getting paid like normal through January 2 for whatever amount of hours you are normally scheduled for however you do not have to work. Severance starts after January 2
