Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Starting rate of pay

I was going through documents on our computer and noticed a file labeled starting rate of pay. The pay for my job i am currently in is almost $3 more than what I am making now. This rate didn’t increase until after I was in the position though.

Is the new rate for new hires or should my pay rate have increased?

I'm a supervisor at a Sears store. I asked HR if I could be considered for a pay raise, and if so, what the process would entail. She emailed me back and basically told me to apply for something else within the company to get a pay raise and that Sears doesn't do pay raises.

So, yes, I will be applying for "something else", but it won't be within the company.

A conversation I had with a manager sounded like this.

Manager: I tried to get someone a 25cent increase. Answered questions, wrote why I thought they deserved the increase and was told no.

This is a small reason I left Sears this month after 16 years.

A great deal of people in that building haven't seen an increase from Sears in over 5 years.

The increase they did get was because minimum wage increased.

Who knows what you stumbled across? If you are in the stores, maybe your store manager was trying to put together a proposal of increases for the store. The title of the file is so vague....you don't know it it's legitimate or not unless you ask corporate HR I would think.

I’m not new actually. I have been here for 4 years now, hence the problem. If I was new I would be on the higher rate. You may want to call down and read before you lose it.

The store managers heavily resist giving raises to existing employees, they'll probably say they don't have the budget for it if you ask for a raise even just to the current new-hire amount. Can't hurt to ask, though.
