Store downsized -- Troy, MI

I was driving past Oakland Mall in Troy, Michigan and I noticed it looks like the Sears store there is being downsized. The eastern half of the store (which includes the auto service center) is visibly under construction, with a new entrance being built. It appears that a new store will be going in there. The western half of the Sears appears to be untouched. Does anyone know what's going into the newly-divided space?

Runnings also likes to buy old kmart stores. The one they bought near me is nice and updated. No more tired floors and leaky roofs. They must have put a lot if money in capital improvements that eddie said we don't need. It really shines and has actual customers in the store.

At Home took over our Kmart store. It is actually a nice store as it has household that mostly would be found online only around our town.

At Home has taken over a few former Kmart and Sears stores that I can think of. The former Kmart on Washtenaw Ave in Ypsilanti is now At Home.

On a related note, Sears is not helped by the fact that many of its stores are/were in "B" level malls. Briarwood, Twelve Oaks, and Rivertown are the only major malls in MI that I can think of that Sears is in off the top of my head.

Yeah, Oakland Mall is pretty sad these days. The wing that leads back toward JC Penneys is split into an upper and lower level. The lower-level section is almost completely empty.

That store (and really a lot of that mall) is a sad tribute to another era. Very outdated and worn.
