Wasting $ on sh-- like OATH

Seriously, build brands people love!

Waste of money! When was the last time amyone used YAHOO as a search engine? The only thing i associate wirh the AOL brand is slow dial-up.

Alot of the XO network is on leased fibers. There is a large effort to get the traffic on those leased fibers moved to VZB fiber, to avoid a huge bill. XO has very little of their own cables.

To say XO was purchased because we need their fiber is a bit of a stretch. We have the fiber. But their spectrum on the other hand....

Agreed. XO was bought because we need (or will eventually need) the fiber and its bandwidth.

AOL actually has a lot of products that could eventually be monetized (Huffington Post, Tumblr, Engadget, et al).

The Yahoo acquisition is a bit of a head scratcher tho...especially given that we KNEW about the hacks. We inherited that bs and now will end up spending MILLIONS in order to sort it out.

And really...do we want the type of customers who are STILL using Yahoo mail?

@qai that's what they (Marni) said.... but when you look at how they're approaching it, it's forward thinking in the way lemmings keep moving forward off a cliff. I've yet to read any industry analyst that thinks it will work out.

Not saying they're necessarily going to get full ROI on those acquisitions, BUT... if you think they purchased Yahoo for the search engine and AOL for the internet connection, you obviously don't get it. It's about reaching new customers and leveraging new ways to generate revenue. It's actually a couple of the more "forward thinking" moves the company has made in some time. Try doing a little independent research before regurgitating what you heard the idiot in the next cube spewing out.

They have to try to get something of value out of the billions they spent on Yahoo and AOL.
