Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Fake News

Why do so many people get worked into a frenzy by visiting this site? There is not going to be a wide scale layoff on 11/16. There will be normal restructuring and org changes that result in some eliminated positions, but not the massive rifs as discussed on this site. You will see.

This is not Fake. Already know from my boss, though I’m safe. 45 day notice and out of our group of 14, we are losing 4! Other groups too.

Reorganized means I think that cheaper people will be doing your same jobs

I was just told on the 9th that our entire IoT team was being RIF'd, then reorganizated. Don't be naïve about what is going to happen. You don't cut $10B out of costs without cutting headcount.

I've been on this site since 2015, almost 3 years now... Yes, there are comments that are off, but in the aggregate this site is BY FAR the best predictor of what's about to come.

You cannot make your conclusion based on a single or a couple of posts - but in the aggregate, if you f---ing see a thread with 40,000 views in a couple of days you may rest assured that something major is about to hit.

So, if all of this is fake news, how come that we have 1000s of views per hour on some threads? Even if nothing happens, it tells you a story - people are anxious and there is low confidence that the existing group of executives think about the worker. Now, contrast this with the traffic on T-Mobile's site here on layoff - there is one post a month - that tells you a story in itself.

So, now you tell me, is TheLayoff fake?

This is a twisted group of upper management along with the middle management blowhards creating such a corrosive atmosphere due to extremely low staffed areas in Network operations.

I put up with this the last 15 years of my 30 years of taking on the work of others that were riffed because of lack of performance

Or those that requested to leave voluntarily.

The chant was contractors will save the day ! All baloney. Good contractors are rare and in my former area even mediocre contractors were rate. In major metro areas there is always a number of former employees willing to work. Not true in many other areas. Their business model is to overwhelm the remaining few with work and responsibility that they eventually run for the exits.

I left the Titanic on my own terms without licking the boots of these incompetent managers and directors. Despicable people. Good luck to those riffed.

Confirmed from my former team mates in wireline net ops. They have asked to be “available” Thursday morning. Standard operating procedure for RIFs I’ve waited for and RIFs I have delivered. I left in 2015

I guess if "some" equals anywhere between 3,000 to 6,000 people loosing their jobs I guess it could be called Normal Restructuring. But every year? Cant these management geniuses figure this out? Maybe they are ex weather forecasters?

We'll find out in 2 days if these threads have any validity. If it turns out that it's just the normal end of year reorg hop, skip and jump structuring, then we'll know how much or how little credence we should put into most of these posts.

I guess we should ignore the fact that Lowell expects to cut costs by 10 billion in the next four years and that managers have been asked for names to rif? Get a clue Lou!

Meeting invites are already being sent for 11/16...mandatory morning meetings for those getting laid off. If you work in Piscataway IT office it's getting even less white...might as well have the cafeteria always serve Indian food there.

WARN act requires 45 or 60 day notice for large RIF. Since we are getting 45 day notice I’d say we are definitely going to have a large RIF.

This company is clearly unstable. Reorganizations just keep happening...I've been cut twice and I'm still here by some miracle. If it happens again I'll take the severance. Nothing worse than going to sleep wondering if you'll have a job tomorrow.

I call B.S. - my money is on a large RIF on 11/16. I still keep in touch with someone working at Verizon, in IT, and they are pretty sure that RIFs are coming company-wide.
