Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

New GE ..concentrating on three core business playing fields Aviation, Power and Medical

Folks,

Makes sense GE should play in the Power and Aviation fields. The barrier to entry huge! There is also Synergy of the two businesses. New aircraft engines drive innovation in power turbines. No brainer ...great call.

Healthcare, not sure we should be here...but JF understands the business. So, give him that call to retain it.

I am rather surprised at the potential oil and gas sell off ...GE spent some huge money getting into that business. Now they want out of Baker ??

With all this down sizing why the hell do we need a board of 12 people and a corporate staff this huge at all. Sorry but retain the resources at Power and get rid of corporate HR, marketing , you name it. Hey Vic at GRC ...cut everyone not supporting Power , Aviation, and Medical ..sorry but time to go. I kept hearing right sizing Power ...how about right size GE corp.

Um, no. Most of the GT business is out of Greenville, SC. Manufacturing, sourcing, engineering. Several thousand employees there.

JI shut down a large portion of US side of the turbine power business and finally moved what was left of it to Baden as his farewell gift to GE, now they want to concentrate on power. Big does not mean smart. Big and clumsy is more fitting.

@1kdg it’s worth being there if you can 1) continue to innovate, 2) continue to drive cost-out and 3) compete in Africa, SE Asia and the Middle East. These areas are where the big growth will be over the next few decades, and wind turbines won’t get the job done. ‘Power’ has a lot of life left in it from the demand side, and has the technical depth to deliver...we just need leadership.

"Synergy" is the biggest weasel word in GE universe ( up there with "CTQ") .

Synergy gave Power some of the greatest leaders ever who came over from aviation -

Rick Stanley , the king of leisure

Synergy gave Power the "gift that keeps giving" - Alstom

Synergy once created organizations such as "Wind and gas components engineering" - despite no synergies in the operating temperatures

Flannery's repeated utterance of this term shows he is just the same old , same old

Yes there are huge barriers to entry where power plays. The question is if it is worth even being there. This industry feels like it will grow only at GDP+/- 1%. For years, GE grew faster than the industry due to the Gas Turbine bubble and then the services bubble. Those are over. CSA accounting produced cashless grow for the last 2 years, now that is over. What multiple should a stock command when it only grows at the rate of GDP, even if that return is low risk due to barriers to entry?

Healthcare or Medical is a stagnant business, the innovation is slow, markets are highly competitive and GE often got 5-8 people doing about the same at each client, Incredible waste of resources. Now Investors and employees paying dearly.

Clearly ..." dur" does not know sh_t about Gas Turbines ...go troll around some other site. Or you are just being as dip sh_t. If you would like I can list out about 20 common design features. I said, the two businesses have barrier to entry ...how many gas turbines and jet engine suppliers are there ...not a whole lot and cost to failure is huge.
