Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

The Hard Truth!

I look on here almost everyday and see if anything new is posted. My job has already been eliminated. I was the full time Lead in Business Office. The shame is that we all have to speculate. There is no way the company doesn't know about this site. I would have so much more respect if they were open and honest. They send everything else out on the WIRE, they could have easily sent personal emails to the affected associates. I have only see the "truth" on here, I don't even see it on the news...why do you think that is? They are a powerful company with a lot of allies. We all talk to family and friends, you know EVERYONE knows what they are doing to us! I have been looking for a new job when my time allows, I know there is a job out there that I can enjoy. I used to love to go to work, we laughed and had great times, now I hate the thought of it. I will have to take a cut in pay, change my lifestyle and spending habits and basically start all over. I have given my life to this company--33 years of it. So, in closing, the hard truth is that in the end they are going to continue to phase people out. Who it will be is yet to be truly known. If you are a long term associate or in an office position I would seriously start making plans. For that matter any long term associate in any area. We built this company to the success it is today and someday they will see that we were the glue that held it together. Good luck to all.

You have to look on here to find out anything if you work at the club I work for I will go ahead and put it out there 6518, the management is terrible. I once loved to come to work fun times...no more. If your not in their little circle your doomed. I have seen great managers leave, but the sad part the ones who don't give a flying bleep are still there, so what do you do walk around paranoid all your life wondering if your next....nope I will soon be looking for another job, the bonus looks good right now on our dry erase board but it will go down its guaranteed no matter how busy we are, but they will get theirs, so it doesn't matter they don't care about their associates anymore period.

Seriously no matter what you will have to be trained. Look for data entry positions. My new job is 95% 10 key. It’s an in house software that is simple based like the smart system but a lot better. I trained and have done well so far. It’s a different atmosphere with it being a busy cubicle style office but it’s a good change.

Here is an excerpt from my resume just to give you guys some ideas of what you can add in that you may not think of:

As a lead: Additional responsibilities of managing deadlines, overseeing office workers tasks to ensure accuracy and productivity, following up with all procedures to process needed duties with timelines and policies, accountability for all work done by myself and coworkers. Basic clerk duties also performed: Cash/Money Control & Processing, Record Retention, Answering of a six line phone system, Customer service assistance with financial and company related issues, employee relations with extreme confidentiality, organizing and record management, researching errors/issues, processing secure information, accounts payable processing as well as assisting in many other tasks including working alongside several other departments such as payroll and some human resource tasks.

Again, you got this!!! You (we) deserve the best!! Go get it!!!

I too thank you for the resume advice. 30 years at Sams and in my 60's I feel intimidated by what other jobs expect like excel. Plan to take a course and look forward to actually be happy in a job. Best of luck to you all.

Pretty much one and the same. I've always been told don't say cash office around members. Call it accounting of business office.4

From a 35 year associate, that personally shook hands with Mr. Sam and Bud, I believe he (Mr. Sam had it so right, "You take care of the associates and they will take care of the company". Because of all the changes, and leaving out the 3 basics beliefs, striving for excellence, respect for the individual and service to the member, this company is going DOWN !!!!!

Qh5xI0I-qlq. you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. at club level anyway, yes with the exception of ONE hateful b..., no other manager has ever “set” back and chuckled about anyone losing their job. mgrs know they could be next. i doubt you are an asst or even have personal contact so you should be careful what you say because you bet karma is real. keep pushing those carts till you’re 60.

Sams gave me the experience from the cash lead position. Do not sell yourself short.

Resume:

Accounts payable and receivable

Cash handling with extreme attention to detail

Multitasking with phones and more

Customer relations

Data entry (you know 10 key like crazy!)

Record management and retention

The list goes on and on.

I was hired for a new job based on my longevity with Sams and all of the things i listed as my daily duties. Loving my new job. Keep looking. Apply for everything. Even if you don’t feel qualified. You have to be trained for any position no matter the experience. Think of Costco. You couldn’t just walk in and run their Office even though it’s the same type of company. You’d have to be trained. Just don’t give up. You got this!!

I was told about this site by my night manager..so yes management reads this site...I am nearly positive the local managers have at least some Idea what is going to go down...it has always amazed me how the local management acts as though we should be happy for these type changes because it helps the company...as if the company is some sort of higher being needing worshiped and sacrificed to.................

Don’t sell yourself short people have done great things after they leave this filthy company. I to hate how they have done my friends and are continually doing them. Managers set back and chuckle it’s such a shame so much talent wasted. Took most of them 25 years to get where they are now to be down graded to cashiers door host etc..Sad karma will eventually catch up!

It's unfortunately a sad reality. This company and the world knows that Costco takes care of their employees, and it shows. Sam's aka Walmart only think of themselves up top. They have to know they are destroying the place, but as long as they are making the big money now they don't care. I'm sure some of them read this site from time to time. Probably just have a chuckle about all us "beneath them". They could fix things, but they seriously don't care. We need more people, and they have the money to give more hours to our areas. There's a point coming not very far down the road where there won't be any turning back. Things won't be able to be fixed. We're not there yet, but it's so close. I am also looking for another job. I was an audit Lead for 7 yrs. I took the grocery lead position, but my goodness these stores are a disaster! They expect so much out of us all. I have to remind my GM often that I am hourly. I am not on salary. The things that they expect us to finish in such short time frames along with assisting members, and being called to drop things for people, it's insane. I wanted to make a career with this place. Now I could care less. Now I just want to find something that won't make me as crazy as Sam's does now. It didn't use to be this horrible.
