Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Layoffs are hard on those left behind too

Layoffs are hard on those left behind too. They company will try to overload you with work. Say no. Set boundaries. Your whole team has to be on the same page.

Really good advice from another thread that I thought belonged on the front page. Verizon will try to get you to do the same amount of work your entire team did with fewer employees. Don't let them get away with it, for your own good.

@1NFG... You’re absolutely right. It was smart of all of you to Unionize. It’s not so easy convincing people on the wireless side. Most are sheep.

@1kxr No they cannot replace me......I'm under contract.....My Union Brothers and Sisters entered into a contract with this company to protect our careers and our future. We noticed very early on that we needed each other to make this company what it is today. Without an understanding, if you will of that.....the greedy ones will throw anyone overboard to protect themselves and their future without a care or hesitation.

We built this together....we all work together....Then we shall stand together. Need to save money, big boss/leaders? Take a pay cut.

@1LYZ...The next round of layoffs will come. Its a matter of time if they can replace you they will with cheaper younger labor. History will repeat itself.

@1LYZ.... Me and my team have been doing this since May when there were layoffs that resulted in an unrealistic amount of work on our plates. We all work hard and give 150% everyday. It gets to a point when the company takes advantage. We are all close. We speak everyday. We banned together and started saying no. We weren’t laid off today. The company has put themselves in a position where they can’t let us go right now. We are the only ones who have this skillset and knowledge. I’m not going to allow this company to kill me because they keep making bad decisions and think they can put more work and stress on me. I work hard and so does my team. But we can say no. And we do. And we are still here. Stop being a push over. That’s what Verizon banks on. That all the pushovers will just be happy to have their jobs still so they will do whatever they are told. I would have been happy to accept a package today. Guess all of my saying no hasn’t cost me my job. You should try it sometime when you’re tired of being a sheep. It’s liberating.

Yes been through many RIFs. Always need to pick a few things to stop doing so we are not overwhelmed. Find out what is priority from senior management. Do those things but stop doing things other teams want.

In theory that would work but none of us live in theory. Reality is with blood in the water nobody wants to call attention to themselves. Yes boss, right away boss...we fetchin', steppin' and survivin'.
