Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

After 15 years, I will be leaving Verizon - Here is my farewell message to all of you

This starts the first day of my new work life. I have been making contacts and actually found a couple of things in telco networking. I am sure it’ll be tough for a while, but things will fall into place...

I’d like to offer an unsolicited advice to all those of you that will be staying with Verizon. The first would be to work hard, and make your job count, make an impact no matter what you do. Be the first to take on new tasks and try new things, do the best possible job you can do. Second, reflect on your life – your family and friends, that’s what’s matter and pay attention to it – love and be loved, seek and offer help. Finally, stay relevant from a technical point of view – things will continue to change, and this is and will be a must.

I wish you all the best and good luck on your job hunt, and for those that stayed keep the working hard. Make every day you come to work, because it can end in a blink of the eye.

"The only reason most of us with 15 years or more in the wireline side still have jobs is beacause of the Union."

No, you still have jobs at 15 yrs in because the older employees were RIFd due to their salaries. You know, those 50+ year olds that knew what tip and ring was. The folks that could recite documentation in their sleep. You know, the folks you asked for help when you were stumped.

The only reason most of us with 15 years or more in the wireline side still have jobs is beacause of the Union. GO CWA! I’ve worked with the most unethical managers and team leaders. The injustice committed on the customers is beyond what the layman would believe. Verizon has purchased dying companies, like yahoo and aol at. Loss of billions of dollars and now they’re taking it out on the little guy. As employees beware and document everything those managers tell you to do or say to you and be ready to contact Ethics, DOL and FCC only that way they would learn to stop the buses of both customers and employees.

"Zero F---s Given - pay me now, pay me well - f--- future and developent"

They know the best, we should all act like them - OP your thinking is outdated, thats a gen x or boomer attitude - does not work

Ok Oprah. I'll counter that with some useful advice

  • take the company for every dime you possibly can doing little as possible

  • use your severance and overtime to start a side hustle/save up a ton of money

  • dont "try new tasks" for verizon, they dont care about you, at all.

  • sell every goddamned share of vz stock you own as soon as you possibly can and get every person you know to port out
