There is no negotiating, you get what they offer, if anything.

Yup, wireless has been doing that for years now. 2wks/ year of service, max at 35 weeks, includes medical thru the 35 weeks. Then you can do COBRA for medical at BIG bucks/month

There's no negotiating the severance package. HR makes an offer that you either accept and sign or you get nothing.

Everyone that got laid off this time around from the XO merger (former XO employees) only got 1 week per year.

And, as soon as the newbies get trained in and producing, they get bored and jump ship to the next 'opportunity' with their on-line gaming buddies.

Why bother retraining when we can hire younger cheaper people who already have the skill sets and don't have a lot of old-school baggage...

Here is a forward thinking thought...Why not offer to retrain the people to other positions that are the new and upcoming areas of the companies technology?

While it (usually) s---s to be RIFd, the severance package is pretty generous, not "crumbs". Many places offer no severance, and many others 1 week per year with a low cap.

That is standard severance, 2 weeks for every year worked up to 35 weeks, unless it changed recently.
