Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Verdict is in

This came from their meeting in Boston this past week. I was a recent AVP that took a buyout this week after it was offered. They are going to do the lay offs beginning of the new year They want to wait after Q4 because it is the most profitable time of year. Here is the breakdown:

  • They are going to lay off almost all MPCR's

  • Streamline LP by increasing areas

  • Determining volume and distance their goal is to reduce 10% of DM's + RxSups. In other words dissolve 1 district per region based geographically.

  • Some areas they are going to reduce regional's increasing their span of control

  • Going to trim demand at store level by 3%

We have been told that there will no longer be separate pharm sups and dist managers. One will manage both. Our 2 districts will be split to 3 and 2 people gone with a new 1 coming in. Other companies who have tried having non pharmacists managing pharmacies have realized what a mistake this is and have returned to separate managers. Money isn't everything CVS!

Don’t know why ALPDs or Sr RLPMs not cut. They provide no value to the stores would have been a huge savings IMO

What about the SR RLPM role?

Is the new field position for licensed pharmacist only or will current DM's be able to go into the role?

Moving towards only one field manager per district. (DM / Sup positions eliminated) Unsure if the districts will stay current size.

Loss Prevention staff will be reduced and streamlined to increase efficiencies across the enterprise. Various synergies will be employed so that newly aligned field management will assume the auditing function that is currently and solely the domain of the existing Regional L.P. Advisor Team. This will allow the reductions in the loss prevention team thoughout the organization. The new structure will have Asset Protection Members in various roles of Auditor and investigator. They will be paid less than those currently in the role of Loss Prevention Advisors and they will report to an Area Asset Protection Manager. There will be two auditors/investigators per region who report to the APM.

Sadly, being an LP Advisor or a District Manager at CVS this Christmas will be a dreary prospect.

Conversely, the moves will streamline the CVS field team and realize a sizable cost which will help the enterprise acquire Aetna and become lean and mean in order to stave off future rivals such as Amazon.

Since virtually are merchandising decisions are out of the store’s control, can increase the DMs span of control. Just need to set the planner, so CFR, absolutely make payroll. Don’t need that many people to manage that anymore.

RX supervisors don’t know FS so they won’t eliminate RX sups since the majority of the money comes from RX. Dec 1 is when it will be announced. Retail is dying and it’s scary.

When will this take place?

That doesn't make any sense to eliminate DM since they know front store and RX supervisors don't. Probably supervisors will have to go

A large number of field, especially DMs will be out of a position. Complete new structure.

Mid week next week, we all should know. Massive field reorganization with far fewer positions.

Some MPCRs and their direct reports were already laid off a few weeks ago. I would be surprised if more would be laid off just a few weeks when their team is probably now already realigning and figuring out what to do going forward..

I for one appreciate it since this is what this site is for. Truthful or not at least it gets me to start preparing. I for one was not aware of anything until someone called me earlier this week to gossip. I rather have a small idea of potential than no idea at all

I highly doubt that the person positing as an AVP is painting an accurate picture. If you truly are an AVP you should be terminated not bought out. Don’t make a difficult situation worse for all those whose possible employment is in jeopardy. Let’s just be factual and try to care more.
