If you are not working & desperately need the money take it. If you are employed or just looking for opportunities, keep going. It's not a benefit to have SHLD on your resume with a starting date this week. Makes you look like you needed to take ANY job. The long term employees make more sense.

It doesn't make sense to say SYW is safe. The only "rewards" are Sears & KMart merchandise regardless of where you earned the points so ... you figure it out.

They’re separate? You’re safe? No more famous words have been spoken by them to so many candidates. And stores keep closing with so many laid off at corporate, retail and support levels. Keep looking, and don’t look back.

“Shopyourway.com at Hoffman Estates offered me a job, what’s it like?”

Answer: “it’s like a dream come true, the best job you’ll ever love. Like making love to a long legged virgin on your wedding night as she... well you get the idea.”

OP a lot of people on this board are betting for sears to go BK because they play the market and don’t actually work there.

Trust me, run, don’t walk, and take this job. The perks are amazing, some of the most beautiful women you’ve ever met will be your coworkers and they will treat you like a king, if u know what I mean. And the pats not bad either

Have you ever seen an ad for Shop Your Way outside of Sears? Are there any other retailers using it to any significant level? Nope. it is a discount program for Sears only, and they have not been able to grow it beyond that. It is not engendering loyalty, it is simply a coupon delivery system. It will not survive after SHLD implodes.

Well they lied to you so you have that as a starting place ... They are owned by SHLD just as sears and kmart.

A few years ago there were about 54 million active members in SYW. The number has dropped precipitously since then. If the OP has other opportunities, I would recommend he pursue them instead.

Is Shop Your Way viable enough to have the interest of other companies in the industry? Sears and Kmart's market share has eroded and continues to erode. I think it will sell, but I think the buyer will just want the name and little more and will pay accordingly. Thus, the remainder of the SYW ecosystem may dissolve, taking many jobs with it. No area in Sears Holdings is safe at this point.

Loyalty programs and the gold mine of its data only has worth if the market share is demonstrating solid growth.

Besides shrinking market share, how much value is there in the SYW databases? False information, fake accounts, duplicate accounts, abandoned accounts, accounts of the deceased, accounts with inaccurate or out of date information, and the big kahuna--accounts tied to consumers that are no longer engaged with the company. Add poor quality data to a shrinking base and the whole thing loses massive value.

A clue of the real worth of this so called gold mine would be the fact that Sears Holdings would not disclose how many active members there are who are engaged with the program. They had several occasions where they would claim "proprietary information" or something to that effect whenever they were approached with this during earnings announcements or press releases. If a company was confident, it would boast and brag about the tangible and intangible value.

I work there. It's awful. Just like the rest of the company.

I think it's all what you personally need. I work at corporate, and I feel the pay is fair. My boss and the people I work with are nice, so I don't mind my working environment at all. Yes, there is always a risk in retail in general and right now a bigger risk if you work for Sears, JCP, Macys, or BonTon, but if you know that going into it you will be fine.

Eddie wants SYW to be the last department standing even if/when all the physical Sears/Kmart stores have closed. Nothing within SHC is very safe anymore, but SYW is probably the safest.

Well SYW is part of Sears, but this would be an interesting intake SYW has some valuable because its a huge database with lots of information from other people. Most likely it will get bought out I doubt it will disappear, but you got nothing to lose OP if you don't have a job as of now you can get that experience from them.

agreed if your not working at the moment then grab the job they pay well, but if anything else comes up just take it and walk out and treat it like a bad dream , or treat it like an etch_a_sketch ... it never happened

I guess if you have no other offers, then fine. It would give you experience and references. Otherwise don't pass up other opportunities for this losing company.
