Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Last week at Sears

Hello all! Without going into too many details, this is my last week as a salesperson at a Sears store after 3 years. I found a job in the field I was studying and wasn't sticking around to find out what was going to happen to this company. For those of you who are going to stay, good luck to you all and godspeed.

@1ldw - Congratulations on your great new job! Also, congratulations on sticking it to that ineffective windbag that was your store manager! Sometimes an inspiring and heartwarming story does emerge from Sears.

Ex backroom lead, Congrats to you too! I think you're going to like your new position. Good move on the salary too!

You left at the right time because even if you'd stayed through the holiday weekend, you wouldn't have been appreciated. You didn't let anyone down because it doesn't sound like anyone working with you was reliable enough to be let down.

Enjoy your Turkey day!!!

Today was my last day. Backroom lead. Decided enough was enough. Toyed with the idea around lunch and handed in my keys 10 minutes before my shift ended. Figured I'd give them enough time to make it through the Black Friday weekend but I was tired of doing the work of ten people and the mounting demands, all while not being paid accordingly. Due mostly to my flaky seasonals who never show up because no one enforces the attendance policy, this week's workload would have been mostly on me with no help--as usual--just like it has been for the past year and eight months, with no appreciation or support to boot. The look on the store manager's face when I handed in my keys today was priceless...well, where have YOU been all this time and when have YOU ever been of any support to me? What have YOU done other than barking orders from your office?

The little bit of "overtime" was not worth it. After it's all said and done, it's an extra $150-200. Whoopdie do. Not worth the stress. They can deal with the flaky seasonals and the demands for unloads, wef fusion fulfillment and everything else. If they don't come in, oh well, not my problem anymore. Maybe the store manager and the ASMs will finally start enforcing the attendance policy when it hits them the hardest and they have a 850+ piece truck waiting for them with no one to unload it.

I start my new position in two weeks, so in a way I get a little vacation that I was never able to take while at Sears. My new job offers a great salary ($48k to start, not bad for a 23yo). Lots of perks too. Medical/dental/vision is a fraction of what Sears offered.

So, yeah, doesn't it feel REALLY GOOD to leave this place? So many other people need to do the same, instead of complaining about the company's steady fall into oblivion or hoping for a 'miracle' and the good old days of Sears, which are never coming back.

@QlAKtEe-ujv Actually, if you only knew where I lived, you actually are kinda force to work at only a few places.

@nlk Funny as you are not forced to work at Sears. Everything you do is of your own choice. Sorry Sears hasn't worked out for you. Sears has been a very good company/job for me. But if I find myself without a job in the future, I will just move on and find another job as many do every day no matter where they previously worked.

Congratulations and good luck! Its always good when someone escapes this mess and lands something with stability and greener pastures.

I'm planning my own escape. I want to be out of here by the end of February 2018 at the latest.
