Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

General Survey

How many are still Dedicated in their current positions?

How many are seeking employment outside of the General Electric mess?

How many more employees are going to be effected in a negative way because of this mess?

How many General Electric believers think that the healthcare will get better? Or will receive a raise anytime soon on top of the double work load?

Please feel free to add other comments that relate to this survey.

Thanks in advance

I interviewed last week for the first time in 20 years. Was told I am looking at a 30 percent pay cut. Having GE on my resume made me somewhat undesirable. Sure hope that will not be the standard going forward. My best friend tells me to just stay and see what really happens with GE.

I took out a loan against my 401k to pay for all my debt. Going backwards in my salary range isn't really an option.

To answer the OP: I am still dedicated, but.......

Get out now before the rot sets in and you become unemployable. This ship is going down.

Speaking as a long-time GE employee who was impacted by layoffs earlier this year, I can safely say there is life outside of GE. I had a good run at GE, but I love my new job and work environment. I'm actually happy I was forced out and no longer have to endure the stress of working at GE during this crisis. Change is hard and there is inertia to overcome, but never fall into the trap of thinking you don't have choices. GE is known for having great people. The GE brand is not yet so tarnished that GE folks don't have value on the street. Many companies still stand in line to hire former GE employees. Good luck to all.

I still have a hard time accepting what is happening but I am also smart enough to know it's time to reinvent myself. The glory days of GE are over. I'm going to take a financial hit but I also know I will make it up in years to come. I simply cannot stay in such a stressful, uncertain situation. I have seen others leave and be successful. GE used to be a great place to work. We used to bring good things to life! Then they started getting cute and replacing the experienced workers with know it all program kids. Those of us who have been here a while know that's the downfall. Hotshot wiz bang skinny jeans trying to be seasoned executives. GE deserves better. I'm out of here. Going to miss the gang but that's what Clinton's Ditch on Fridays is for.

They should let the workers know before they should splurge on the American holidays. As we all know the typical corporate company will screw the American workers as usual.

I'm actively looking for a new job. I have a mortgage and kids in school. I'll admit, I was in denial. How could GE get to this point? Over the last few years, I've seen a lot of experienced and dedicated employees have their jobs eliminated only to be replaced by the "me" generation. This is why GE is in the situation it is in now.

CAS has been such a disgrace. It is now the shell of what it used to be in the 90s. I have worked with some of them on business projects. It is pathetic how they add zero value, bar time keeping the meetings and send the minutes

It will be stupid to not look for a job, whether you like your job or not. GE will cut xx% (xx < 99) of employees as soon as they are legally allowed to do so.

I am going to do my job professionally and ethically but not going to work weekends and holidays like I did years before, just to bail out some exec who made bad decisions in staffing.

I will stay till I find a good career path in growth area, hopefully before they axe our group/site.

Raises will be back in 2018/19 to keep people who have a clue from leaving. Healthcare will get worse. Pension same.

There are lot of good businesses in GE and few good managers. I'm not in either one of those situations.

After 22 years here, I still love this company and I wish, with all my heart, that we'll be able to turn around and 'make it'. Yet, with every new day, this seems less likely and I have very difficult time convincing myself that the current executive line-up is or will be able to deliver what's required.

It's sad, depressing and cathartic at the same time.

I like my job and the people I work with but it's time to move on. I haven't had a good manager for the past 7 years.

Is this a GE employee survey?

I do not see the choices to circle:

No long term plan to stay at GE, it is only a mater of time before it no longer exists. It is almost gone now.

Hey “untouchable”, no one outside GE wants an executive trained at a company that was mismanaged so badly. Wise up!

Work load won’t get better. They can’t afford to backfill and everyone who can get a better job will leave, saddling you with the “residue” employees and lazy/incompetents. This isn’t the time to be sentimental get out while the economy is good this isn’t the army no man left behind.....

XLP program is the one area that’s untouchable for layoffs that’s proof in the pudding that GE is in terminal decline. No amount of “change management” and “lean process acceleration” will account for the fact GE simply cannot make money on its existing businesses. Foolish company get out now and beat the mad rush of desperate Job seekers that we all know is coming

Best thing to do is look around and have resume updated but don't react to rumors of what "might happen"

I am in the XLP program and untouchable for the moment. So I will stay with GE and then get an executive job elsewhere.

I do agree with the OP's point of lack of dedication.

I am not going to be affected by this wave but still leaving. There is no point staying here, cannot let GE control my career at this point.

I’m out ASAP. Trying to stay local so it may take time. Have 15 years exp with GE as SB engineer, but the slow decline (relative) in comp & benefits makes the job no longer attractive. Every engineer I work with says the same and is looking elsewhere. Hell, even my manager is sending out his resume.

I'm still dedicated to doing my job that GE Power is paying me to do for now, but I no longer have any illusion about it being a career. It is a lot more difficult, though, v since the workload has increased tremendously from the first round of layoffs and we basically get no support to do anything. My role nominally requires at least 25% travel, with more now due to more component responsibilities, but I haven't had any T&L approved since June. The death spiral feels very real from where I stand.

I am actively looking for opportunities outside of GE only. Before everything blew up, I had been looking to move within the company to another businesses, but I will no longer even consider this as an option, for reasons that should be obvious to anyone working here.

I do not believe that any of the healthcare or raise aspects posed by the OP are going to get better anytime soon, if ever. That's driving me out as well.

At this point, I’m looking for good positions outside the company that would be ideal for. However, if laid off soon, will start looking for positions that have longer commutes or more travel. Check out a business broker such as sunbelt, since I even looked at buying an existing business.

I’m dedicated to my current position and will do the best job that I can, because I am professional. If I survive layoffs, and GE does freeze the pension as rumored then I will look elsewhere immediately...

Still have a job and no longer consider it a career. Was overly dedicated until team kept getting downsized to the point where we cannot sustain normal operations any longer. Started looking outside. Will fully focus on leaving after new year.

Lets see if there is layoffs again and I don’t make that cut I will be leaving shortly after. Have 100’s of job(hopefully careers) applications out there. My feelings are GE is no longer a career it’s just a job till you get laid off or they close your plant. Good luck

I was laid off but asked to apply for one of the new positions they opened. My current workload was already tough with half the team laid off in April, double the orders in the pipeline, and last 3 employees who left were not backfilled. We were down to one domain expert for the entire region (me). The new job was to be a domain expert for multiple regions. In other words, even more worl, no support, and you bet T&L will be a pain to get approved.

So, no, I am not staying and no one qualified would apply for that role. GE will be stuck with a mediocre worker who will be so overwhelmed the customer complaints will reach epic levels in 2018.

TLDR: talent death spiral commencing
