Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

So where did you go?

I guess most readings here left NOV or are thinking of leaving. Which job did you go to and when did you leave?

I myself left in 2016. Went back to being an IT consultant still working in the oil industry. Very happy with my choice, but I still miss the nice people.

Watching this site, helps us that are gone, see what went wrong and is still going wrong, so we don’t make the same mistake in the future. Looking back helps some, make better choices moving forward. We no longer want to be caught in a position where we are afraid to make a move and just sit and wait, like sheep, to be put down.

Perhaps we who left still check this page because we have friends and family still trying to hang on at this company. Ever think about that? Otherwise, you'd be right. We would have no reason to check up on here.

You people who left and claim to be "so happy" are full of sh--. If you are so happy, why are you on here checking to see what is going on with NOV? You "happy" people would be living your life and NOV wouldn't even be entering your thoughts. Sick of BS and people who aren't honest. I left NOV because of a layoff. Am I happier now? No I am not.

I went into substitute teaching in Katy and really enjoyed it, though the pay was not exactly great. After encouragement from several teachers, I decided to pursue a teaching certificate. I am now a fully certified teacher and am far happier than I ever was or could be in the private sector.

Left after 16 years with NOV straight from school, saw what was happening which gave me the push I really needed.

Working as an IT consultant for an IT consultancy company - never looked back, worked at NOV with VERY rose tinted glasses, wish I would have moved a good few years back, but beauty of hindsight

Got asked to go back a few weeks ago - no thanks, not for me
