Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Walmart’s Toxic S-xual Harassment Culture

Some say it’s just the way men are I disagree not all men are the same and not all men harass women. But after a decade of service at Walmart I can’t tell you the number of stories I have heard about what other women like me have endured.

Am I the only one?

You are not alone. I was s-xually harrassed for 12 years. After reporting this person many times, I was as crazy questions like, where did it happen, what time,we're there any witnesses? Just to do nothing at all. He was finally fired for harrassing a customer who reported him and demanded that he was fired after asking her a question about her choice for feminine hygiene items. He harrassed 100's of associates and customers. Management would say, he's just kidding, you can't take him seriously. He was a snitch and a a brown noser. Wal-Mart dies not take s- xually seriously at all. I can't waiting until they get rid of 3rd shift, so I get outta here and rest after almost 20 years on 3rd. I'll take my severance ( if they have one) and move on ...

I hope sr hr leadership reviews the qu-e-er associates post and are able to piece together the events to identify this associate to assist them because it sounds like they are still being retaliated against

I've been s-xually harassed by two employees, each at a different store. I was too frightened to report the first one (though other women did, and he was eventually fired), but I did report the second one. I wrote a report and chose not to take the issue higher than store level for several reasons. He was held accountable for his actions by m management and put on a short leash but not fired. Though he is no longer at my store I regret having not brought the issue to ethics.

You are not alone... I've complained about harassment to management. As a Consumables Sales Associate that usually worked grocery 90% of the time, I complained to my store manager that my department manager said there were "too many f----ts on the grocery side of the store and they cause too much drama." The store manager said to "consider it dealt with." A week later she was the Consumables ZMS and I was tasked exclusively in HBA and cosmetics for the next several months and when I said something about that, she told me "I thought you people liked playing with make-up" and that same store manager that said he'd deal with it said that's where I was assigned because that's what I was best at.

The harassment there was ridiculous. I had another associate scream at me on the sales floor "why don't you go kill yourself, you f---ing a--hole?!" and there was a co-manager right there who said that if I showed more respect for the individual, it wouldn't have happened. Someone else there thought it was funny to throw aerosol cans at the back of my head and when the HBA DM spot opened up, she got it.

I called the ethics hotline and was promptly told that the Open Door Policy had not been fully exhausted at the store level.

I got coached for not leaving a customer to get management when he got belligerent because we didn't have something. Store Manager said "if you have a customer drop an F bomb, you walk away and get management." I gave him a dozen examples of when management had been called and refused to come deal with a situation and he said "maybe this situation didn't deserve it but the coaching stands because I don't like drama and you cause drama."

Then, I got coached a few months later for calling management to deal with a belligerent customer who was throwing sh-- at me. Store Manager refused to even talk about that one. Manager that coached me then told me that she just needed an excuse but she had heard that I had called the ZMS a bigot and she wasn't going to put up with her associates talking about her hourly supervisors that way.

I called the Market Human Resources Manager and he said we were getting a new store manager and if he didn't address these issues within his first three days, to call him back.

Those coachings were overturned, that ZMS hasn't said anything like that since and is now 1/95/96 DM. The HBA DM quit a couple months ago and the Co that ignored the harassment that was right in front of her is more a store manager hundreds of miles away. The ASM that coached me seems to be on the sh-- list of the store manager and all the co-managers.

Before that first complaint, most of the managers seemed to respect me and now they're walking on eggshells around me so I'm not moving up and the job market is sh-- here so I'm not going anywhere else.
