Contractor furlough

Contractors are required to take most of Thanksgiving week off, plus last 2 weeks of December. Penny pinching, or something else?

One of the contractors in our group is not having his contract renewed.

Looks like the "Gravy train" is coming to a stop! Of course, if you worked in other industries Christmas to New Years is famous for shutdowns and has been that way for decades. If you are a W2 of another company you were forced to save up your vacation time to use for your employer.

I am sure since this is the first time it is happening that it is a culture shock. Sure the FTE's are not happy as they will have to cover the week while there contracting co-workers are off as that was something contractors seemed to get stuck with!

I can remember when they cut contractor wages years ago, and when we began holding them to 40 hours and could not give them extra time which had to two parties upset, contractors losing easy money and FTE's that were now covering off hours.

Contractors are on the high-end of the pay scale, AND they aren’t employees. I don’t feel any sympathy for this news.

This just isn't right. Forcing contractors to not work over the holidays (we have a lot of temp labor by the way). Imagine how this will impact their and their family's Christmas celebration? Taking away 3 paychecks! Very disappointed with Fidelity here.
