Stack ranking (aka forced distribution, compliant plans)

"...Stack ranking might be sold as a way to rapidly get rid of dead weight, but in the long run, it only ends up creating more of it."

Even better. We were just told we have too many 1-2-4s so go back and re-evaluate them again and come back with lower ratings. Even though we have RIF'd 4 of 14 people that were 5's

We need to boost OEF (organizational efficiency). Even though we haven't made processes more efficient. Just cut the heads and it proves we are efficient. Not!!

The 9-Block / stack ranking is a holdover from the previous CEO's idolization of a GE (General Electric) CEO's practices.

Look how great things have turned out for GE ! (including latest announcement of cutting its dividends in half).

Here's a little additional background about how great employee ratings systems have worked at Microsoft, perhaps having the same effects at Honeywell:

Any if you aren't willing to relocate your can only be rated "develop in place" which will keep you off the promotion list unless there is a promotion at the site you are at (means you are at Morris Plains, Atlanta, or Bangalore and perhaps SanLuis Potese MX)

Basically I think they are encouraging anyone over 30 to go to other companies or go to the spinoffs

Yup!

Kind of a no brainer. Too bad Honeywell is always 10 years behind corporate America. By the time they realize it's a bad idea, the rest of the world moves on. Just like the open office concept. ALT will never learn nor gives a crap.

Just another reason for good employees to get the heck out of Dodge.
