Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Oracle doesn’t advertise their cloud services but Amazon does

Just saw an ad on the ABC network for AWS directed at small biz. Why doesn’t Oracle advertise their cloud? Could it be their total disdain for any biz that is not Fortune 500? Their lack of goodwill to their customers and their horrid reputation for price and support? Maybe Amazon will buy ORCL just to get their customers, which would be karma of the highest order.

Oracle does advertise to customers but they do it in Top Tier periodicals that C-Level employees read like The Economist. They don't advertise in the comics like Amazon does.

Who needs sales when you've got a dedicated Financial Engineering for the Cloud department??

So given that oracle’s strategy is now not to have a field sales force but to rely on call centers instead, how is oracle going to drive business to these call centers? Looks like MH is cutting costs every which way with no understanding of how sales come about. And no, sales don’t just magically happen when Santa slides down the chimney on Christmas Eve. Looks like oracle is cost cutting itself out of revenues, sort of like HP his old haunt

The highest level SVPs at Oracle will tell you that advertising has no value, and what you really need is more marketers. Which tells you that you should sell your Oracle shares and buy into a company with executives that know something about how to sell a product.

Soon Oracle will get very great exposure and free advertisement to the growing cloud practices , Courtesy by SEC and press coverage.

IOW, Oracle has no game in the cloud space, will never have a notable presence and will never be a mover and shaker in that business. Epic fail, Larry! All because you are one of those managers who always say “no!” when confronted with something new especially when the new threatens the established. Sort of like Ken Olsen at DEC (remember them?) who said “here is no reason for any individual to have a computer in his home“.

Oracle does a few ads for SaaS on CNBC. The last thing Oracle needs is for a big IaaS ad campaign that brings in new customers as their IaaS lacks capacity to handle them. AWS ad campaigns are evidence that Amazon is starting to feel real competitive pressure, but it’s coming from Microsoft and Google, not Oracle.
