Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Anyone who’s shift ended how were the crowds yesterday at sears 6-12?

Just curious as my shift begins today at 4am-3pm and I plan on taking all my breaks and both of my lunches that are scheduled!

I’m not happy about this long shift !

Bad karma to the management that didn’t hire enough seasonal to make this voluntary

Down 52% here on Thankgiving and down 55% compared to last year today on black Friday. We have no electronics that brings people in and a black friday ad that is only four pages. Last christmas season for sure.

Kmart Associate here... Store opened at 6am... When I got there at 6pm, the store only had $9,000 in sales in. By 10pm, the store was only at $29... Store manager was freaking out because LY the store did $90k.

She's now convinced it's gonna our store's last Christmas

It was very depressing. Almost all of the action, if you could call it that, was in softlines.

The foot traffic was the lightest I have ever seen in my thirteen years with the company.

Thanks for the thorough report, @sbb. Hopefully at least the extra pay will give some associates a better Christmas.

Personally I went to Home Depot for Black Friday shopping this morning, because they were offering good deals on some things I wanted that Sears no longer carries at any price.

Got there right before the store opened at 6. Nobody was at the main door entrances at all. Last year, we had a small crowd of about 10 people. This year, a whole five minutes went by before a couple of people trickled in. All other than four cars or so were associates/managers (everybody was there as it was "All hands on deck!"). Across the way at Target there was a full parking lot. Several customers asked if we had any deals on TVs or where the electronics department was, when they were told "no, sorry we don't" they walked out.

The company may have had dismal online sales by the look of our web orders, as our staging area for the web orders due to be shipped out was quite thin compared to past years. I had to ask if UPS actually came by to pick up the first batch before the store opened, which would be unusual for Thanksgiving, but that was not the case. What was sitting there was all that our store received for web orders. The backroom associates (along with a few seasonal associates helping them out) were practically standing around waiting for orders to drop. They were scheduled all night with the intention that they'd be up to their armpits in web orders. Packaging was all done before 7 for the first orders that dropped. That has never happened before.

Store was 100% dead by 8:30. Usually the store is dead by 11 on TG. A couple of associates were sent home, even though everybody went into this with the belief that it would be standing room only and everybody would be fairly busy. It was so bad that an associate designated as a door greeter at the rear of the store, positioned by L&G and merchandise pickup, didn't see a single soul for the three hours they were positioned there.

I'm from just one store, but we are located in a fairly good size shopping center off the freeway. All of the other stores in the vicinity seemed to have much fuller parking lots. The majority of the cars in ours were those that belonged to associates and managers. However, the drop in Thanksgiving shopping participation seemed really concerning compared to the four previous years I've been with Sears.

I wonder if Black Friday will make up for the dismal sales we had at our store, and I wonder if the dismal night we had at our location was an issue throughout the rest of the company. I'm just disappointed that we put so much stress and effort into preparing for this one night for nothing, sacrificing our time with our families in the process. Was it really worth being open on Thanksgiving?

Well every region in the company almost was down 40 to 50 percent compared to last year. Total failure.
