Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

So now what?

Will the battered and abused former Walmart workers ever get their just due for years of dedicated service or are we all just satisfied and content with having our lives turned upside down and eviscerated by ML?

Pulling our kids out of school, selling our belongings, scouring the country for some distant hope that there is a state or a region where we can make a life for ourselves after having our lives turned inside out with these endless layoffs.

I find it amazing just truly astounding that these people seriously think that they can destroy other people’s lives, families and careers and just walk away like it never happened. The fact of the matter is for of many of us, too many of us know this is the end. There are no more cards to be played, the question is what the hell are we supposed to do now?

@QqRtFd0-2lrh, true words! Moving to BV for a job with Walmart will only benefit people if they use it as a short career stop to get what they need on their resume, and then move on to somewhere else. I was lucky, I hated BV/NWA, every minute I spent there was torture for me, lol. Too many people fighting to keep the status quo, felt like fighting through quicksand. Moving on to something new felt great.

The world has changed Walmart, it is no longer going to be a final destination for people to put their career on cruise and just sit back and wait for retirement; it shouldn't ever have been that way. There isn't a company I can think of in the US right now where that is true. Unless your name is out in front of the building, you can't get too comfortable.

Take the energy spent lamenting about Walmart and focus on getting somewhere else where your skills are needed. Know this, there is dysfunction in every company, you trade one set of dysfunction for another, no company is perfect. Ruminating on problems outside of your control will ruin your good time, rob you of your happiness and turns you into a buzzkill. Don't let that happen to you.

Don't hate the Indians who have H1B's who are trying to make a better life for themselves, hate the corporate leaders and politicians who are taking advantage of a loophole in a law whose spirit was to fill in a skill gap with H1B's, not bring in cheaper people where US workers already exist. Any of us, if we were from India/China/wherever would do the same thing to provide for our families, so stop with that. Direct your anger to the people who allow this to happen.

It's tough love time - I agree that part of the issue is people committed to a town with just a few employers, and being in a place with more employers would certainly make it easier to stay put. It's our reality now, and anyone who continues to think of their employer as anything more than that is going to continue to be frustrated. You're a hired gun, take care of yourself and your family and do what's best for them. Ongoing pressure for higher earnings annually will mean it'll only get worse, pull up your big kid pants and move forward.

American associates at isd in general have super plush jobs basically glorified status collector and “big ideas guys”. Now JK and others have decided the Indians in India “managing” themselves are cheaper - and associates and h1bs in ISD will be the losers.

ML is the one saving our ecommerce business. He has done more in a year than previous regime did in the last 5 years. JK & NA was driving ecommerce right off the cliff until ML came in to save it. That is why we bought Jet. I work in California office and was ready to leave the company last year but decided to stay around to see what happened. I think we are approaching the cliff again unless ML replaces JK. We are years behind in the technology race and JK does not have what it takes to get us ahead. It is not his fault because he just does not know better. He has surrounded himself with friends not leaders. I don’t think JK is a bad person or bad leader. We just need a reboot with a new person. Enough said.

No one is forced to work at Walmart. You can leave anytime, and that is particularly true if you are a member of management. Walmart is not the only Fortune 500 company undergoing layoffs. That is an outcome of a company reaching its mature stage of growth.

Employees at other companies have to manage through layoffs and Walmart Associates must do the same. We all knew that NWA has 3 major companies headquartered here plus the vendor commmunity that offer compelling career opportunities. What this speaks to is the need to continuously upgrade one’s skills and be flexible enough to transition. No employer can guarantee employment. Only a customer can do that.

The current leadership of WMT Technology and Ecommerce have the support of the CEO, Board of Directors, and the Walton family. Clearly, their efforts in omnichannel are starting to pay off now that the investment community sees the path and improved business results. WMT clearly needed to evolve and move faster as the company had fallen behind.

There will not be a turn around in tech until there are stricter regulations preventing the Indians from taking our jobs via h1b and outsourcing.

We should be thankful we got out before SHTF at ISD. Have heard from friends it's an absolute filthy rotten sh--show race to the bottom against Amazon - it will just get worse and worse until ML shuts it down. We got out while the economy is still good and better, higher paying jobs with more PTO and less workload are available. I know it's hard to let go of the bitterness and anger from the way they screwed us over but you must accept the company will never give you closure and just move on. You must trust God delivered us from an absolute disaster and he gave us a better direction. Think about it do you really want your kids to grow up in an area where they have to work for Walmart and get swallowed chewed up and kicked out as soon as they are too old to get a job anywhere else but too young to retire? Give it more time and you will realize it was a blessing in disguise.

Move to a large metro, like DFW or Atlanta, where one employer (or industry) doesn’t dominate the scene. Granted, it won’t solve all our problems, but it’s a start!
