Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Appealing Separation at IBM

I was recently terminated by IBM after a report was filed that led to my separation immediately from the company.

Does anyone know if there's a reliable appeals process or anything at all I could do to help save my job?

If you really want to fight this and feel you have a strong case, get a Corporate Law lawyer. You'll just get the runaround at all levels of IBM management. Possible to get more than 30 days separation payment if you get a lawyer to start asking IBM about process used, warning, notice, coaching given, other job options, how you rank vs others in same position, why were you picked, etc...

The open door process is a complete joke. Don't waste your time. I went through it and I had a slam-dunk case against a superior (executive) that threatened me (voice and via email) career-wise if I didn't lie about something and then actually followed through with it. HR doesn't work for you, they work for Ginni and her minions.

Move on and find something else, I don't see any way you will overturn this decision.

That is a tough break and you were probably blindsided. You need to find an IBM manager and then file a complaint. From my experience working at IBM it seems that speaking to a manager will yield quick and decisive results.

You need to find the person who terminated you and then track down his or her manager. In almost all similar circumstances this is the best course of action. Talking to a manager at IBM will help with your reinstatement at the company because IBM managers never side with their employees in such scenarios and you need to take advantage of this loophole. It is your only realistic option. Hope this helps.

You are an "at will" employee... Don't waste your time. Spend your energy finding new opportunities. Why would you want to fight this and go back to a hostile environment?

Not aware of this - they made a move and there is no retracting. It's at-will kind of a deal and while (theoretically) you may get your job back, I'd say you stand a very slim chance of even having anyone interested into looking back at your case.

I am not a lawyer and this is not a legal advice - just my gut feeling.
