The deal is as good as done. Hock Tan is not stupid. He knew exactly what he was doing with the first offer, and he knows exactly what to offer now. You really think he would make such an offer if there were any chance that he would fail?
Heck, I wouldn‘t be surprised if Mav were behind all this. It‘s quite possible that they made some kind of deal with Broadcom, giving them some guarantees to keep them as main supplier for the next five years if they acquire Q. That way, Mav would solve the Q royalty problem, and Broadcom would have a safe source of revenue to pay for the acquisition.
The deal is going to happen. Broadcom plays nicely with Apple and the combined companies will be the largest supplier to Apple by far. The board is going to have to accept the deal, the litigation risk with Apple is huge.
