Thread regarding Sears layoffs

How about a strike?

Without us sears and kmart are nothing. How much more are we going to take from this company? These stores are being run on a bare bone crew. No hours are being given to do the many tasks expected. Full timers in some stores arent even getting their full time hours. Some stores are even being paid minimum wage for one person to do the job of 3 or 4 people. Commision associates are doing cashier duties and ruining their chances of possible sales and bonuses. How much more are we going to take from Sears Holdings? Yes, we have the choice of leaving but many of us dont have another option. We need better working conditions and treatment.

To achieve what exactly? If you wanna put yourself out of work you might as well leave. A strike won't magically make money appear in the sears bank account. Assuming a strike could even be coordinated, which it can't..especially on an anonymous forum, it would only sink you deeper into the pit.

You really have two options. You can deal with it or you can leave and find something better. I don't think sears can afford any type of compromise.

We should have had a strike last weekend (Black Friday). I have been looking for different jobs, but I can't find any other company that offer Shop Your Way Rewards as benefits LOL...

The best thing to do, if not the only thing to do--is leave, and before you or anyone else accuse me of being "Eddie", "corporate", or accuse me of being snarky, I will have you know that I am right in the same trenches at the store level as a backroom lead. You have to fight really hard to get yourself out of this situation. I'm fighting really hard myself to get out of this situation.

It isn't going to be easy. I should know because I'm fighting this battle myself, right now. Keep your strength and plow through this. Get yourself out there and before you know it, you will plow right through the rubble that is Sears and Kmart, God willing.

A strike will only inconvenience the workers that choose to stay out of necessity (finances) or out of fear of being fired. The show will have to go on, the opening manager will open the doors in the morning, and those of us that continue to work will have to work extra hard to cover for the lack of people. As it stands now, we don't have enough help at the store as it is. Heck, I was cashiering and selling appliances yesterday because we didn't have enough people.
