Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Another Dismal Year!!!!!!!!!!!!

Many of you have been warned. There are going to be massive cutbacks. I stated several months ago that the District teams and Regional team members were a joke and had high paying salaries. So now instead of trimming all the fat at these levels there will be many store closings.

Macy's is a joke and in the near future they probably will be back to their original store count as they tried to acquire every Department Store in the country.

You were all warned this was coming.

They will sleep well.....to them it is part of doing business and looking at the big picture.......their jobs and pleasing the share holders. What about the money they will save with the new business tax cuts. Boeing, AT&T and other companies paying bonuses to ALL employees. Curious to see how much Jeff And Hal's salaries jump up. Maybe they won't buy fireworks this year for the 4th of July.

Are you speaking at a region level, because besides store closings, (which are few) no one was told anything on the district level and below

The cuts are here ... hundreds of executives and managers were told today (1/3), that their last day will be 1/26 ... they were told not to say anything until Friday .... a LOT of store closings will be announced this week ... this will result in thousands of employees being let go.

The IT department is busy getting ready to reclassify many stores on 1/8 to GOB status.

Hey Terry and Jeff ... great business plan ... you keep the big salaries and bonuses and thousands lost their jobs ... sleep well

That's not alway true. Macy's owned the Greenspoint and Pasadena stores in Houston and both closed last year.

Nope. Stores would rather get out of owned properties. If the store is dying and they own the building, they are stuck with the property unless someone comes along and offers to buy for redevelopment. That’s rare these days. So in many cases they run a store in a dying or dead mall because they have no choice since they own it.

I don't think the OP of this thread meant that the cuts are now not happening. The way I read this was, the company should have cut these jobs out months ago if not last year with all the other cuts. By not doing so we are at the point where we are having to close more stores than originally planned.

Really much ado about nothing. There will be no information as to store or any level cuts Untill the week of 1/21. There are meetings occurring at district levels on 1/17-1/19 concerning store budgets and staffing for the spring season. The only Information everyone is waiting on is store closures. Which, if true, will be released to the press tomorrow which was stated by various posts on this board.

The thread below this states GOB 1/8 is appearing to be true. Cincinnati location is closing and will start their GOB on 1/8.

Curious to see what other locations will be closing.

If your building is not owned, and is leased I'd be concerned. Company is now trying to get out of leases rather than sell owned store fronts.
