Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Eddie never really knew what he had (past tense)

Although there are varying opinions about the wisdom of Eddie Lambert, he owns the bulk of this company and he has the most to gain or lose from the business success. He never understood the retail business. Both Kmart and Sears were the top retailers in the nation at one point in recent history. Wal-mart is still the #1 retailer in the world even with Amazon's inroads....and Kmart was a clone of Wal-mart 20 years ago. What needed to happen was re-investment in the stores, improving the shopping experience and being competitive, along with playing in the online space. That could have led to a powerful retail empire, Eddie could have amassed other retailers into the fold and WOW! His strong suit seems to be making deals, he should have stuck to that and turned the running of the business over to great professionals (Warren Buffet's style)

The exact opposite happened. Eddie could have raised capital and improved the competitiveness of his business. He chose not to and even commented to shareholders that retail same store sales are on over valued metric. (kind of like the we have plenty of customers comment recently right?) That was Billions upon billions of dollars ago, both in lost sales and profit losses. The MOST important thing any retailer has is their reputation, their brand. Just the poor business news alone has ruined the reputation of these brands. Sorry to see it play out this way, after 30+ years with this company I am out working for a retailer that does "get it" Eddie never did and never will.

No one will ever forget the name Sears. It will be a case study in every business school for decades to come on how to take an iconic retail chain with all the infrastructure, name recognition, reputation etc. and ruin it with mismanagement and hubris.

@ebq- Your delusions of grandeur about Eddie's accomplishments and the future of SHLD are not that convincing. A reality check would do you a world of good.

ebq, Fast Eddie is a lair who has destroyed Sears. Period. He didn't want to close to the stores? He's the CEO.

Op you have no clue.

Walmart is stable, Macy’s tried what you are describing and they’re closing stores left and right just like Bonton.

Eddie saved two bankrupt companies, sears and Kmart. He is fighting, he didn’t even want to close the stores announced today but the bean counters made him do it. Anyone who has retired in the last 15 years only are getting a pension because of Eddie lampert, full stop.

And to the other idiots on here, the vendors didn’t want to get paid, they have always gotten paid, they wanted to gouge us.

Get a clue you disgusting people. If you don’t like working here at shld QUIT!

There are some of us ASM’s who actually do the work and take the time to understand what’s going on and how we are winning this fight. I, and others like me have one mission, to make sure that history never forgets the name, SEARS!

I actually feel bad for not writing the board of directors to remind them of their true obligation regarding to ensure the company's prosperity by collectively directing the company's affairs, whilst meeting the appropriate interests of its shareholders and stakeholders, all shareholders, not just the chairman.....I believe they could possibly share the legal blame for ruining this company.

I agree fighting like hell to destroy it!! Oh my bad, Uber already did that according to Eddie....or maybe it was those reckless vendors who insist on getting paid?

Oh right it is the medias fault for failing to see the brilliance of losing Billions? Hmm come to think of it, did Sears or Kmart EVER lose BILLIONS before Eddie??

@OP - Too bad that when you were an insider at SHLD that you weren't in a position to slap some common sense into Eddie!
