My store in SC now has Ops/AP combo, however being a woman myself I just don't understand how a pregnant woman is going to be chasing down our frequent shoplifters. This store is wide open for thieves. Glad I was laid off. The place is a Sh**hole. I was only part time and already have another job. There nicer store in the Mall looking for qualified people. Thanks for the severance!
Lol the spreadsheets are not even up until they decide to post them. And once the deadline hits they are immediately removed. So our DMET team isn’t the best of the best and of course it’s been addressed and nothing’s changed. I’m very good at my job and I have other things to do instead of pleading with them to get their act together. You think I haven’t asked for calendars or better communication? I gave up. We aren’t provided with calendars like we were with our old staffing planner. Yes it’s easy to figure out but we were so busy during 4q, I lost track. Wish I could share the last email from the team’s supervisor— rambling and contradictory. Even our HR Managers are baffled. I work 8-5 and I’m not going to feel incompetent because I get an 5:30 email with a few hours deadline because they can’t get their act together. But I’m still managing what I have to do and doing so quite well without their help; just like I was before this team came to be. So thanks for the suggestions. Take care
Our DMET has the multi week edit forms posted by Monday or Tuesday prior to the Wed deadline, and we also get a calendar so we always know when to have them ready once the multi week is on the portal. It’s very easy to figure out even without that selling support calendar anyway! If you are not getting this kind of support from your team you need to have a conversation with the DD of Staffing, because all DMETs are supposed to be run the same way and have standards of employment to meet. Circumventing the issue won’t fix anything. If you go home on the Wed before schedule release without having your schedules submitted already, that’s your issue too. You don’t get your multi week spreadsheet posted on the portal by the day before it is due, you should be sending the DMET supervisor and the DD of Staffing an email asking for that form.
Also...my store isn’t the only store having these issues. Our sister stores are too. So it’s not that my particular store has a problem, it appears the dmet team is the one with the problems.
Well you are very lucky that you have a reasonable DMET team. In my particular area, we don’t. I used to submit my schedules the same way when DMET was first implemented then shortly after, they decided they were making it a fixed rotation schedule. And yes, I can submit changes but it’s always some kind of power struggle. My VPSM has nothing to do with it either; I’ve always scheduled based on business needs. Oh and the other kicker with this particular team, they notify us Wednesday after 5:30pm that edits must be done by the same night. That’s the deadline. I’ve already left by the. So again, I don’t bother with dmet. I make my Excel schedules and post those. That’s what we follow.
@R50s2GL-kzn, I've always had control over my AST schedules. I used to edit my own team and now that DMET does it, I write my three week schedules for all of us here and submit them as required, and they key what I submit. No questions. My VPSM has NEVER questioned what I do with my schedules. He trusts me to make the right decisions for MY business. If changes need to be made later, we either swap shifts with each other or I submit a change to the DMET, and the changes get keyed. No questions asked. If you feel you don't have control over your team schedules, there's more wrong in your store than just this.
there are cuts all over from the executive to associate level BUT it depends on your location!!!! stores in one district might have different needs than stores in another!!!! Here are some- support leads for receiving, merchandising, signing, and pricing, sales associates, AST, AP associates, fitting room associates, jewelry complex associates, commission associates, cosmetics and fragrance managers, counter managers and associates ( there are some lines that are being closed in certain locations), visual associates, private brand stock, and visual associates. executives are AP managers, jewelry business and sales supervisors, HRM's, ASM's assistant visual managers, MTM's, receiving managers, sales managers, and sales supervisors. again this is based also on any future changes to a specific stores and store volume. these cuts will not be in every store.
DMET is a joke; at what point will they cut these jobs and give staffing back to stores?
As an ASTS I agree I should have more control of my team’s schedule but ever since DMET arrived, you barely have any say. My store and another store have a nickname for our DMET liaison- “The Denier”. No one bothers taking the time to request anything via DMET anymore. We just do paper schedules and have people go by that.
You can change your fixed schedule in Insite. I would not work on a generated schedule. ASTS is the one that should make the schedule.
AST jobs really are a horrible position, so I do not blame you ASTS!!! Look how much turn there is since the conception of it in 2010.
i'm the PT ASTA. my schedule has generated. false alarm. sorry.
I’m an ASTS (AST Supervisor) and the schedules in my region are fixed scheduled and if I need to edit, the. I go in via DMET to make adjustments. Otherwise our schedules are auto generated so not sure why you’re not seeing your schedule unless there will be changes to our team or your region hasn’t set up fixed schedules and your supervisor must still submit. ASTA is Administrative Support Team Associate for the person who inquired. Personally I feel my job as supervisor will be cut and the team will now all be part time. I’m at the point of where do I sign?
@R50s2GL-rqj posting about being a PT ASTA - what volume is your door?
Any cuts in corporate? Buying planning merchandising?
So, are the SM's going hourly ?
i'm the one who posted about zero AST hours. I am PT. I have a schedule for the other week released.
As AST assoc would not have any ours scheduled unless the ASTS submitted a schedule via multi edit form that was due yesterday to the DMET team
hmmmmm....asta is an ast associate. i wonder what that budget looks like. there are zones for the executives on insite. i heard their schedules might be moving to MSP. Look in the 2000's if you have access to view your whole store there is nothing there but it is listed EXEC.
@R50s2GL-uja, are you a full time, part time, or flex ASTA? Flex associates may not have a schedule if they are not needed that week.
On insite, under Schedule
What’s an ASTA? I’m surprised any AST’s would be left.
@hmv post about SM schedule....where are you seeing this
lmao at the post about the fact that millennial SMs only working their 40 hours. I've worked with a number of SMs,both millennial and not, and maybe 10% actually work 40 hours. everyone does at least 45 and if you don't you get guilt tripped about leaving when you are technically supposed to
i am an ASTA and I have exacly 0 hours the first week of feb
I am a SM and I just looked at the schedule that came out today. Every week until the end of January it says “executive” and I’m scheduled 9hrs each day. The the first week of February is says “area” and I’m scheduled only 8hrs.
Wait...what you're saying is that working overtime is expected? And one should do it out of the goodness of his or her heart? Um, no. The 40-hour work week was established to prevent just that--even if that notion failed at times.
I'm scheduled for a certain time, I work that and then go home to my family. That's more important to me than this sh--show.
The work ethic of many of the sales managers (typically millenials, but not always) that I have worked with is very different from what it used to be. They are exempt and work exactly 40 hours/week as that is what they feel they are being paid for...and many are paid a very fair salary. In stores where the VPSM also works only their 40 hours, the unfinished work either just gets pushed to the managers who have work ethic or down the chain of command. Changing them to hourly will cost the company more money as they'll keep their hourly rates the same but these lazy managers will start milking the clock.
What is going on with the District Staffing position?
Let me elaborate on Visual.
Visual Leads stay, and are not being cut. Visual Leads are still in stores $15M & below. After $15M it is Visual Manager only until you get to $25M, then you get 1 FT position until you get to $40M.
No PT Visual positions anymore.
all ddhr's were cut? if there is a district OPS, why not a DDHR?
How is this a win for SMs? Pay cut in half with same responsibilities? Yeah not flying for me.
I haven’t heard about SMs going hourly... I hope someone can elaborate. That would be a huge win for the SMs... they would be earning overtime OR work an actual 40 hour week. Either way it would be a WIN for them. All the SMs I’ve worked with pull 40+ hours consistently. This is becoming a very challenging time to be leading a store as a VPSM.
I second what “@R50s2GL-zdd” wrote. Have not heard that leads in sub-$15M doors will be eliminated. In truth, I thought the elimination of Visual MANAGERS in sub-$15M doors was done a couple of years ago. That’s when it happened in my NW region district.
Any word on sales managers? Are we going hourly with pay cuts to keep job?
stores above 15m will still have a VM, just no staff until above 25m. VL still in stores under 15m.
Have not heard about the elimination of VLs... not sure where that came from.
Can you eleborate?
Macy’s think combining AP and OP will work. I think not. Eliminating APM is a stupid move. Macy’s you are going to get ripped off worse than you are right now!! Operations can’t run an AP department, they can’t even run the store. Macy’s is such a cheap a-- company who doesn’t care about their employees!!
Does that include visual managers under 25 mil lose jobs as well??
Yes visual PT/FT positions in store under $25mill are eliminated
Yes any VL positions will be eliminated under $15mil
Wow, most other retailers have Ops/AP under same umbrella. When this was announced this was not surprising to me since Macys has been living in the past with so many different district and regional staffs ... totally bloated management structure that will be slimmer and more agile. All those things incidents you describe can be avoided with a hands off policy like ever other retailer has. Sorry folks but some of you need to get out and see what others are doing and why they are more profitable and growing. All the big box retailers are catching up with the times and adjusting their business structure accordingly
