@1vak-- you have it exactly right. They have to employ a certain amount of people, or pay a certain amount of hours to get tax breaks from local and state governments.
Actually, if any SHC stores are closing in your area it could be good thing for the remaining stores as they would have to hire more people to make up for the ones lost at the closing store.
5 hours this week, but I have 30 hours next. Not sure if that is due to what my manager suggested was some wanting some time off after the holidays or what, but I'll take it.
Personally I was hoping for it to be more in-between for a bit to get a breather after the holidays while still getting okay hours... but since we're closing in April, I guess I appreciate what I can get. Lord knows it might die off again next week.
That's strange they cut your hours after Xmas. I worked for Sears in appliances for nearly 30 years and my hours were always full time. I wouldn't even call working 10 hours a week work. There are plenty of jobs out there.
@1vak That is a huge problem in our store as well. We keep hiring extra people and guess what we get the cut of hours. This new cats arent working they are basically slacking it which adds more work to us in the end especially the new kids that are lazy.
@1snj; At our store, we just can't seem to hire anyone, so the point would normally be moot, but using your example, they'd rather just give the 10 people 10 hours.
Look, the week after Christmas hours always drastically drop. This year is the worse I have ever seen in my many years with the company. I wasn’t even able to hire the number of seasonal that I was suppose to because I had half the budget I had had last year for the peak season. So, this is normal, but more stores are closing so do the best you can with what you have!
I always wonder that too. Why there are so many new hires when the current workers are willing to happily work the hours available. Most of the new hires don't work out & leave so they hire more. It becomes circular because maybe it's done so there are employees if other employees leave but employees leave because there are no hours.
The only reasons that make sense to me are the ability to say we employ 100 people instead of 50 and some type of tax break for employing at least on paper xXxX number of people.
When folks leave my store the termination paperwork is deliberately not processed for some time. Only when the segno scores start going down for compliance does the manager send the paperwork in.
Why don't they just cut people so the people left can work more hours? Seems like it would be cheaper to employ 10 people for 20 hours a week than 20 people for 10 hours a week
