Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Diversity the real strength of GE?

Employees were relentless fed the mantra that diversity and inclusion is the reason GE is strong and without it the company would fail. I saw this anthem in action as hundreds of thousands of dollars were paid for V1B visa sponsorships from all over the planet. I also saw many of these V1B recipients in positions where the results proved they were not competent to undertake. Any questioning of this racial or gender based affirmative diversity and inclusion ideology would get you labeled with vicious race related aversions when I was there. But did this much-needed diversity and inclusion influence any die-hard GE metrics like safety, quality, and delivery? In other words, what measurable attribute of diversity and inclusion makes a company strong? If there really is a measurable strength of diversity and inclusion then, how could production sites like GE Mexico, GE China, GE India, or GE Japan be successful or even be able to function when 99% of the people there are of the same racial makeup? Every manager I knew either fearfully or joyfully kept diversity at the forefront of any open position they had to fill. I was told by a friend that some recent layoff list had to be adjusted to meet diversity requirements.

I wonder how many Corporate Audit Staff they will assign to verifying all the entries in the HR diversity database now?

I still don't believe this. How is this s-xual orientation "check box" not illegal?

@1gbz Just be thankful you have a job in this terrible economy... oh wait. Only the giant conglomerate run by progressives for decades is this sick. Too bad your heroine crooked Hillary couldn't save it through crony capitalism and a cap & trade scheme that GE would have been placed in charge of... LOL.

I have no general bias against Hispanics but I always wondered, if I start checking that I am part Hispanic would that open more opportunities and shield me from layoffs? Think about how many forms emphasize if you are Hispanic, or not, and that seems to be of the most interest.

Wow. It's probably too late for that to have any effect on the next round though, because they probably already did a database pull and have made the selections by this point.

Actually, there is a self-reporting check box. On the GE network (or VPN), go to https://employeeprofile.ge.com/ . Then, near the top, click on "Contacts & Demographics". Next, look on the right side, under the heading "Demographics" for "US GLBT Self ID". Click "Update", set to "Yes", and click Save. Instant diversity boost.

You're welcome.

There is no s-xual orientation “check box”...that would be illegal. Now filing a “metoo” case and claiming your g--ness caused you harassment might work well.

It has been hinted that you may able to obtain some limited protection from layoffs by self-reporting as LGBT in the relevant check box on Oracle HR employee profile system...

Diversity and meritocracy usually end up as mediocrity and bias

@egb And that's the only way GE will have it. That's why they continue to push out the older, more knowledgeable folks in favor of the younger, more trainable employees. Knowledge scares management at GE, because knowledge is power, and the management from top to bottom is sorely lacking in it.

Diversity only works if you have a culture of openness and honesty. If not, then all you have is a diverse pool of yes-men and yes-women.
