Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

NOV- Unethical Cesspool of Harassment, Bullying, and Cronyism

NOV is a company who in 2016 allowed their unethical managers in Cedar Park, TX, to fire the entire site in Stafford, TX – both engineering and manufacturing, a total of about 30 people – and transfer those jobs to Cedar Park in order to keep their own employment secure in those rough times. This cunning plan backfired, however, as the manager who got appointed expressly to do the firing, Mike "The Trout Man of Dell," got himself fired in August 2016 for failing the pee-pee test. Also fired six months after was then-manager of DDS, Dave "Winnie the Pooh," who hired Mike, who fired the Stafford crew.

Additionally, as same location in Stafford, TX, NOV kept an engineering manager, Raj "The Stafford Maniac," who would harass and bully their own employees. The bullying and harassment went on with impunity for years. The HR would not do anything with the guy despite the fact that several employees complained about the abuse to the HR. The guys was demoted eventually, however, and quit his job.

Always keep in mind when dealing with NOV. you are dealing with an extremely unethical company.

WOW, even today executives should take note of how department heads are directing their subordinates not to assist the departments that are actually producing products that are being sold and bringing in revenue.

Varco people have been like a nasty infection on a great company. Very sad.

I am glad to be out of Cedar Park. Looked around one day and saw how many of the older, higher performing employees with fresh ideas who had been there five years or less were being laid off, while long term mediocre performers were being retained.

This may not be an issue company wide, but it certainly is in Cedar Park.

Not saying those guys you listed weren't all terrible, but you are suggesting the company did nothing, yet these guys you listed all quit or were fired, one of them after demotion. Pretty sure HR did that. Probably took too long, but justice is slow, especially if people just b--ch and moan for years but don't make formal complaints.

Hey Topdrive Lover, "to work with" or "work for"? So are you one of the people as an agent or support in the field getting the kick backs? Are you one of the people who systematically shut down and try to eliminate anyone who is a voice for something different in the company? It happens all the time. If you ask questions to improve something that was handed down from "on high" or you simply ask questions about how things will actually work you are deemed a troublemaker and removed. Don't try to rock the boat and solve a problem because you will quickly become the problem and jettisoned from the boat.

Now that is on things that are LEGAL. There are good people in that company but there are an awful lot of corrupt, dirty or stubbornly stupid people too and many of those in charge fall into one of those three categories. If you don't believe that than you are woefully ignorant and proclaiming your monopoly on common sense won't change the truth.

I believe you have misjudged this company, it is unfortunate that due to the lower standards of a few employees you feel the need to bash the company as a whole.

Let's hope the rest of the world has a little more common sense.

NOV may be struggling as that's how this business is at times, but they have been a very good company to work with.

Several years ago, NOV started an on line ethics program for everyone, but it was a joke. While the program was going ahead, some managers were discussing ways to buy pass or go around shipping equipment or parts to avoid taxes or strict paperwork. Palms were also greased.
