Now thatan Ops manager will be in only one location, will they actually be doing any physical work, or still sit in the office all day looking at stats and loading everthing onto the MTMs?

Yes, I agree, most Ops Managers are hands on. They get their hands dirty, floor, stockrooms and dock. Some actually acted like DODs, did all the work and reports, and DOD got credit during district calls and deep dives. A few are what is described by the original post, they delegate mostly from the office or from a distant store. It's another year to weed out the less productive ones.
It will be a manager position, exempt salary, don’t know range. And you can bet they will be having to help with the physical part of the job, just like they did years ago when it was an in one store ops position. When our MSO was in our building one or two days a week, she helped with the truck and moving fixtures, I don’t see her stopping that now that she will be here full time.
