About 100 new hires came into SWDC for on-boarding this morning.

I don’t think that was onboarding. I know someone that hires for the groups that onboard at SWDC and they haven’t done an onboarding class since October and won’t do another for a while since they just laid off 300 people in November from Realty. We are on a hiring freeze until March or later. I suspect it was a training class for store planning. They do those at SWDC and the classes are usually around 100 people and are going from 1/8 to 1/26. One group per week. Also, for that group, it’s impossible to make double the starting wage. The pay band range isnt that large for those jobs.

It doesn't matter. Next year, it's likely 20% of them will be gone after they experience forced ranking. The millennials won't know what to do with themselves when they discover there's no participation trophies and they actually have to do something (called work) to keep a job.

On the surface it was an unusually high number. Many of the new associates had earlier start dates, but there were no orientations scheduled so they lumped them all into the first new hire session after the holidays.

It is not fair to ask new hires making 48k-55k to replace experienced workers making more than double that, but that is what management is trying to do. I think the new hires last year are being held to a higher standard than previous years. Now, employers for a new hire can be similar to that of 15 -20 year employee in some departments. Would not want my son to work here when he graduates, everyone is being set up to fail here.

I’m a minority lady btw... probably had something to do with the low pay. (Shrugs). I was happy for the job coming out of LSU

I started as a college hire programmer at 48k (70ppr) in 2008. I know from first hand source that new hire programmers are still coming in at 48k unless they demand more...

Many new hires last year coming in less than 60k. Walmart management believes business will not be affected when they try to replace all experienced employees on a team with new hires.
