Sears Retirement Discount Card

Do I lose my discount when I start drawing my pension, or is this because of the changing of the discount to points?

One other important point I forgot to mention, the discount only ever works/worked at corporate stores. If you tried to use it at a franchised location, that was the problem.

Follow-up from @1kfjs:

https://88sears.com/MyHRHomePage%2888Sears%29/RetirementBenefits/tabid/381/Default.aspx still lists retiree discounts as a 'current' benefit (as current as the undated webpage may be).

A previous discussion about retiree discounts at https://www.thelayoff.com/t/LHOeWfs is a confusing mess of conflicting/unclear information. I'm not sure what you can or should be doing or be able to do, but you're not the only who's been having a hard time using it, though I don't see any indication that the problem goes back a whopping 7 years like your salesperson claimed.

@1kcce You're probably better off at Best Buy anyway, but I'm not aware of a change in how appliances handles your discount vs the rest of the store (there could be a legitimate change I'm just not aware of), so my suspicion is that the appliance salesperson was just trying (and failing, since you walked out instead) to boost their commission. Is your retiree discount usable at Sears.com online? If so, appliances can be ordered that way, bypassing local salespeople.

My husband tried to buy a dishwasher today and the employee told us they no longer give discounts, and havent for 7 years. I have had no trouble using my retiree discount card when I have gotten clothing. So why is it different in appliances? We went to best buy and got the dishwasher I have never been informed that of any change in my retirement benifits.. So whats going on?

@zai is correct. Sometimes I present my discount card and they don't know what to do with it. I have literally had to reach over and scan it through for them.

You get to keep your discount, but you will have to call the benefits and get a new card for retirees. Your old one will not work, since they changed it for the associates to receive points for the discount. When you use the card at the store, the cashier may tell you they don't take cards anymore, and you will have to tell them you are a retiree, and it is scanned just like it was before.
