Do any employees think that possibly Kmart may have a future now that the chain has been right sized? A few years ago there were over 800 Kmart and now there are what, 400? It does make sense for them to close out unprofitable stores and get the business stablized before doing major updates. I remain hopeful that Kmart can be updated and be a solid chain of 400 stores with their own place in the market.

In February 2007. there were 1388 Kmarts. The right size is zero.
It's all about selling the real estate or leasing it out for more with Seritage. A Kmart by me
is open but listed on Seritage website as for lease. When they can lease it for more the store will close. Simple as that.
Kmart has better women's clothes. Better styles and prices.
And the PR and Virgin Island Stores.

The company has been "rightsizing" for the past 7 years and same stores sales are still declining at a double digit rate. What does that tell us? The number of stores is not the issue. They close the most unprofitable stores and the rest keep losing sales until they become unprofitable and then have to be closed. SHC has a management problem, not a size problem. The right size will be zero stores, and it's coming soon.
No OP and the reason is of what you said "close unprofitable", but thats not the case. I read a post here where the poster said his Kmart was #1 in his district and they closed it. You also hear stores that are profitable they get closed and yet the unprofitable ones are still opened. Also another reason is they never invest in the actual stores on contrary they just keep cutting making it harder to manage the company.
Too bad, I've always preferred Kmart and I think the Kmart toy section as well as seasonal sections like Christmas, Halloween, and Easter combined with Sears tools and appliances would be a hit. To me Kmart could dominate certain markets where there is little competition and can thrive everywhere from small towns to big cities whereas full line Sears department stores require a certain sized market.
Not likely. Unfortunately, Eddie failed to invest in our stores and we no longer resonate with the consumer. Fighting a losing battle.
Don't think so. As I said, Kmart will be sacrificed on the altar for Sears.
