Manager stated it doesn't matter what you do as long as you get the job done, don't break any rules and help us accomplish our future vision. I translated that into work 25% harder Monday - Thursday. Friday you are free to learn and help the company build on future vision utilizing the new skills. Since the conversation took place, all deliverables are ahead of schedule, manager is happy and I am happy.
