AST and blackbox

My store manager told me today that "they" want AST to start looking at the black box report. I feel like it's her way of getting me to do it even though it's not our responsibility. Any other AST have this come up?

My VPSM has shared with us and as part of the Senior Leadership, it’s “optional” for the ASTS to be included in the Senior meetings etc. She explained the way the company is going, if you want to remain, you need to be open to moving more in the sales side and learning more about the business. This way you will have more options to be moved when/if our positions are eliminated. I actually have a copy of the document outlining what’s to happen in 2018 as far as the meetings, etc and it does say optional to include ASTS’s. Maybe your boss just wants to look out for you as we don’t have to print reports anymore so it’s not adding to your workload. Just ask your VPSM if you are comfortable doing so.

its A rarity for an ASTS to want to be a sales manager or anything else in that career path. I certain,y don’t mind helping with anything needed but make it relevant to what I do now. Sure we pull some reports but most everything now is on the tablets for the sales managers. And also you get an ASTS out there doing black box you are infringing on the work of the others really responsible for that process. Tread carefully. Original poster never said what “they” want her to do after “looking” at this report anyway.

Maybe your boss sees potential in your future? I had a strong ASTS who I knew could do more, and I worked with them on their business acumen and challenged them with extra SM responsibilities. It’s been over one year now, and they are succeeding as a sales manager.

Sure ask why, but don't feel any negativity right away. Do you have a good relationship with your VPSM? Who's "they"? You might also look at it as your store manager seeing your potential and being capable of more than just what your AST responsibilities are. Your VPSM might be making you a future candidate for another position if the AST position is eliminated. Wouldn't that be a plus for you if you understand the black box numbers? Don't you pull the daily numbers for the storewide rallies already? Ask for answers, guessing, assuming, speculating ... breed discontent. My opinion only.

No AST with any smarts thinks they are safe....we see the signs and it’s just when, not if.

Hehe, silly store manager, doesn't she know that they're taking work AWAY from AST's so they can lay them off later?

I haven’t heard that but it makes absolutely no sense. I know what it is but it has no bearing on anything I’m responsible, for. It’s all merchandise related. Did you ask why and the reason for the why? Frankly, that’s just silly to even think we have any bearing on that. It has to be walked and decisions made by the MTM, VM and sales manager on how to improve the sales for that merchandise department, including moving and signing it better, and making sure markdowns were done.
