Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Chevron Hiring Seems To Be Zero

Okay, it is that time again when I check the Chevron website for career openings for professional level jobs. (I do this every 3-4 months). There is nothing - zero. The only openings are for customer service reps at Chevron gas stations. Is it really that bad, or are jobs being posted by word of mouth?

4stx - That is the situation I am about to find myself in. I won't really need to work but, due to college tuition costs and assuming only a 4% return, I will be slightly cash negative for a couple of years until they graduate and would just like to cover that gap, if possible. Even if I am negative, it won't really matter but I also want to find something to occupy my time without having to think too much. Of course if I can beat 4%, it will be a moot point.

You people on here obviously have a lower educational standard and not-so-well-paid jobs. The inflammatory bickering is childish and the toxic venom constantly being spewed out here makes me thankful I don't have to work with a bunch of losers you all represent.

@6gjt, I’m happily retired, son. I can afford to surf this site during the day. As for you, if you are truly employed, WTF are you doing here?

@6twc, and in the mind of my employer also, as you aspire to be. Good luck with your job search, pal. You won't find one by looking at this site all day.

@6aid, What can I say? You are a legend in your own mind.

4pfb, Again, your ignorance and denial of reality bothers me not in the least. Let me guess - young progressive, obstinate liberal type convinced he/she knows everything and will not entertain any thought contrary to their own ill-founded opinion?

I was laid off and also rehired. I divulged no details of when and the time between and I do not care to. Believe what you want, it bothers me not in the least but indeed humors me and keeps me entertained. Please keep up the envy and criticism. I feel so much more special for having my current re-hire position than I ever have in my entire career. Don't stop now, please don't!

Again, sorry I don’t buy the story of being laid off and getting rehired. Not even 3 years have gone by since the waves of layoffs in Chevron. Policy is you can’t be rehired as a full time employee until after 36 months of separation. Don’t try BS’ing me.

I can believe someone would want to take a step or two down the ladder if they have their finances in order but aren’t old enough to start cashing in the 401k without taking a big penalty. It makes perfect sense and I hope to be in the same position a few years from now.

3sch, Your comment is not believable because yours is simply a tall tale "rebuttal" made in jest as an example of BS, since you obviously envy someone with a simple, boring yet well paying job, for whatever unknown reason. It's unfortunate that you do not believe the truth, but it is not a challenge, I care not, it is factual info for the benefit of readers who wish to learn.

@3gfw, Sorry I don’t believe your story. Just like you won’t believe that I got laid off and was rehired to replace my former bosses job.

I prefer the customer service job because I no longer need to make a high income and no longer want a job with high stress. I have girls in school and want to pay those costs without dipping into retirement accounts. So customer service rep is attractive to me. I don't need to stoke my ego and I don't want to be in a high tax bracket any more. I am just looking at options for the right fit.

2mde I was previously laid off from Chevron then rehired, long before this last round of cuts. And I did not do any schmoozing, etc., just displayed hard work, a rare commodity these days. Your insulting and disrespectful comments are completely false.

No @2ezz, what’s really sad is that some people keeping dreaming that Chevron is going to hire anyone back someday. Once laid off, you are gone forever. Get that through your head and stop wasting precious time and energy waiting for an opening. Only very few voluntarily-retired staff may have a chance to return if their skill set is unique and/or they had the shumooz factor when formerly employed.

It is really sad that some people use this site to anonymously bully and disrespect others. Yes, I am sure that Burger King does have job openings, but instead of providing insults to someone who could be legitimately interested in working at Chevron how about show provide positive input. As a 25 year employee of Chevron the request is to stop belittling the stature of the company with ugliness.

@2lvd, there are customer service rep jobs posted all the time at Burger King.

Any chance there are customer service rep jobs in other states not listed on the website?

Those 45 internal positions in earth sciences are not posted on the website. It sees to be like musical chairs for those already employed at Chevron.

PDC this round listed 350 open internal positions... 45 in earth science (my field)... not a lot by historical measures but up from basically zero the last few rounds. Several friends, quality talent, hit in the down slide recently found positions and many more friends have announced their retirement. Things are slowly coming back...keep looking ... the light is shining at the end of the tunnel. Good luck to all!

Looks like all those customer service reps are in California. Too bad. I can't afford to live there. Would be the perfect job for me too.

Been a while since I've looked on here. Glad to see we still have the bar set high and are advertising the average level of mentality for a Chevron employee.

@jev, Get serious! Go back and re-read the OP’s opening comments and take a close note to his chosen pseudonym; “Forcibly Retired”. I’m not being mean or petty in my reply. My reply stands as is.

OP was just stating an observation from Chevron website, not that he/she was actively looking for work. The professional level job hiring is probably similar at many oil exploration companies. There is no need to be mean and petty when replying to a comment. You never know when your number will come up and you, too, will be forcibly retired.
