Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Profitability versus sales

I remember there being a lot of whoop law in November about Kmart not having good black friday sales and not being busy. Did anyone consider that perhaps those sales weren't profitable and that perhaps Kmart has bought survival by not chasing unprofitable sales? Fact is that employees of Sears holdings should be happy when their company posts a profit, especially considering the financial situation the company is in. Who roots for the company they work for to fail? That's messed up and calls into question why they chose to work there. Just remember that whatever the situation of the company and however poorly you feel you are treated, it is a sears holdings check that pays the rent and puts food in your mouth. Employees should be loyal to their employers, not being so says more about them than their employer.

Not that we root for the demise of SHC, it is the lies (we made a profit) and the way they treat people (everything is going great, right before they close your store) that gets employees mad. The profit they supposedly had for the 4th quarter is not a real profit. It is a one time tax break that offset the loses. They still lost money, had YoY store sales decline, had a total revenue decline of over 1.5 billion dollars and their debt increased.

Do I want the compnay to go BK? No, I like working for Sears and I enjoy my coworkers. But what irks me is when the DM or someone tells us how great things are going, that the stores are fine, that the equiptment is better than any other retail company, that our online sales rival Amazon, that employees dont need or want raises, that according to their research most employees would prefer a recognition piece of paper or that cuts to our hours will be a good thing.

Most of the employees are clueless to the financial plight of the company and most are too young to care. But those who have worked years and dedicated their lives to a company should not be feed a bunch of bull. It is called respect and ethics. I

I believe that most would still work for the company with a better sense of purpose and understanding if they would just cut the bull and give us a little truth. But when we see our stores falling apart, stores closing, equipment not working and ancient, hours cut and benefits cut, yet, we all we hear is how great we are doing, it is insulting to our hard work and intelligence.

@1ap. You said it perfectly. Respect the person who is paying for your livelihood.

It’s gotten me experience coming out of a layoff in the mortgage industry 13 years ago

I never knew just how hard retail people work until I was on my feet all day coming off a desk job!!!

Kudos to all retail workers!

I have gained a lot of new friendships too!

But you get a weekly pay check. Job done= pay check in the bank. Sears Holdings is paying millions in pay checks to thousands of employees. That's real money and it's paying for real things. To take a check and hate the one giving the check shows a lack of class. If anyone hates Sears Holdings so much then the should have the courage of their convictions and get the food on their table and roof over their heads from another company. To get those things from Sears and not understand that they are the ones paying you shows a lack of awareness of one's ability to make their own choices in life.
