Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Did anyone negotiate their severance?

Has anyone tried to negotiate their severance? Did you get your desired outcome? Also have you been paid your severance and have you filed for unemployment yet?

I am currently in the process of negotiating my package after the completion of a successful instore solutions claim. There is no guarantee that i will be getting anything but it never hurts to have dialogue. The problem is getting legal to confirm with SIS, and then legal talking with the severance division. It is not appearing to be a timely process. I was not hourly but i am not a big dog. I was simply salaried and out after 12 years. I will keep you posted. Never hurts to ask. All they can say is no and I still get my 13 weeks.

No one did...unless you are an officer of the company, this isn't even remotely an option for you. Anyone that says that they successfully did is telling a flat-out lie.

Any why does macys owe you anything. Did you forget you work for them....they make the rules. They tell you what to do ,not the other way around. If you say no all companies would say see the door, i am the owner etc......work.....work...work. That is the big difference i guess people, i dont know how , they forget they are the worker.

Lol you are a retail worker. You dont owe macys anything is right. Good luck fighting with macys lawyers.....they love little fish like you trying to fight for crumbs. Did you factor in the cost of your lawyer like other people have mentioned. No because to busy day dreaming. Dont get your feathers ruffled up to much but goodluck. I sure its worth the fight lol.

Lmao, greed is good! And no most places don’t just say bye bye they give you a package. You’re not to bright if you think that I owe Macys anything. negotiating is absolutely the smartest thing to do. I am signing legal papers that limit my rights to sue the company after the break up. What do you think a severance is, it’s not a thank you, it’s a legal document limiting the accountability of the company and your power to pursue legal action. Well if I am going to limit my legal rights to sue then I want my $$$$! You are the fool my friend.

I don’t know of any hourly associates who negotiated theirs. From what I know first hand, they will basically tell you that you’re lucky to get something because legally they are not obligated to give you anything. If you lawyer up and get more weeks, it’s simply going to end up going to pay your legal bills plus some. Sadly take the severance that will be taxed heavily and move on. Macy’s doesn’t care about hourly associates. They’ve proven it already.

You are not going to get anywhere with negotiating your severance. But go ahead and give it a good try. Get yourself a lawyer to get those “few extra weeks” and see how much he charges you...you’ll end up with a lot less than you would have gotten on your own.

Don't try doing it through solutions instore because the first words out of their mouth after asking me what type of outcome I was hoping for was that they have nothing to do with adjustments to severance payouts. So, if you can prove that there was wrongdoing by the company I would take it to legal first and scare them and let them take it to the severance people. When you talk to the severance people directly they will tell you that they have no authorization to adjust your severance. They are merely processors. Legal dept is who you need to bother to get some extra weeks

How heavily were you taxed? Was it’s around 33%?

I didn't negotiate my severance. I just wanted to get over it and plus I already was offered another full job. Thank God.

I received my severance this past payday on Fri. I was told it was 2 weeks after you signed your papers. I signed my papers on thurs Feb 1. They have a 7 day waiting period after you sign the papers just in case you change your mind about the severance package and then takes up to a week for it to be deposited into your account.
