I've heard lots of rumors about massive layoffs coming and no severance package. Is this based in fact or just rumor?

I don‘t even give a damn about severance packages. What good will x months of pay do me if it takes me 5 times x months to find a new job in a labor market flooded by layed off Q employees? I cannot leave SD, so what am I gonna do? Flip burgers? Trim hedges? Push shopping carts? Stand at a busy intersection with a „Former Q employee needs money to survive. God bless!“ sign?
Massive layoffs yes, it’s not a rumor; its’s the $1 billon cost reduction. As for serverance package it’s always been there, just a matter how much it is. Be prepared be appreciative what we have that’s all I can say.
Verizon is a sh--ty company. They did me a favor by laying me off. It has revitalized my career.

The future is unknown but you should plan for the worst anyway. This is the wise thing to do. I have six month emergency fund in place and am selling the last of my real estate holdings this month. I am. I have also started sending my CV to colleagues at many different places. Good places are inundated with applicants from Qualcomm so don’t be the last to apply.
