Performance Reviews

Hi all-I was wondering if anyone here had any ideas on how to get around a bad review? In short-as a new employee a couple of years back, I got a 1/2 from a TM who is notorious for writing bad reviews; problem is, I’d like to stay with the company, but because of this bad review in 2016, I can’t even get an interview.

Any solutions?

Same sh-- show for me. For 2017, I got a 2/1....and a HR drop file/sheild for “potentially” creating a harassing environment. My TM said he recommended a 2/2, but I don’t believe him. I honestly should of gotten a 3/2 because I consistently exceed my metrics. But I don’t really understand since my HR investigation came back inconclusive, yet my TM said he had to put the sheild on my HR file. I refused to sign it. Complete bs as I feel like former coworkers and former TM fabricated lies about me. Regardless, I feel like I’m stuck in my current position for the next 3 years if my department survives. And a 1% merit increase is a joke!

I actually had the same situation. I posted for a job due to my department being relocated for fear of not having a job if i diddnt. It was the worst decision I could have made and was miserable. I had a commitment of one year before I could post. I had absolutely awful manager who gave me a 1 and I have never ever received a one. I was even looking for jobs outside statefarm. I ended up going to HR with my issues and they told me they couldnt do anything about the rating since it had been too long since it happened but they did adress the issues with my supervisor and also encouraged me to go ahead and post for the job openings that I wanted. I thought i was screwed because of the 1 they wouldnt even want me. I went ahead and posted and they actually gave me an interview. Then i prepped for that day as much as I possible could. They never mentioned the rating in my interview and they actually extended an offer much to my surprise and my supervisors surprise who had given the bad rating. So its possible. Once you get the interview you just have to sell yourself! I would still post. Worst case scenario you dont get an interview.

It is a 3-yr curse. That manager, or your current one can help by reaching out to hiring managers, but tour best bet will be get a dev op to an area you want to go to. I did this for an employee that wasn't cutting it in our area due to technical skills. She moved to another area that is difficult to get in, because I gave her to them as a loaner for 3 months. She did great and they hired her. She stayed there for years, until retirement.

Getting a 1 on an EPR stays with you for 3 years I believe. It's not an official thing but I've always heard if you've had a 1 on a rating you're not getting an interview for 3 years.

Good luck man. I had a very similar situation. I got a 1-2 review about 15 years ago. I had started in October and the EPR cycle ended in December. So basically got an EPR with that rating on it despite only having worked for State Farm for a bit over a month. At the time I didn't know the repercussions so I signed it.

It s---s man. I think the first reply would be my course of action.

Or wait it out... how long do s that stay on your record? Do you mean like a 1/2 rating or 1/2 percent raise??

The only advice I can think of:

1) Know somebody/have connections

2)Have a mission-critical skill (you probably still need #1)

3)See if the manager who gave you the bad review will reconsider the mark he gave you in 2016 and call the hiring manager on your behalf to explain the low rating and speak on your behalf. Good luck with that one.
