Layoffs in some east coast offices this week. Not huge numbers but some senior tech people.
The quarter just ended so it is kind of late to help last quarter numbers.
Does anybody know more about this? Which offices? I've tried to get some info from my manager, but he said he didn't know any layoffs took place last week.
Plus they smell like TOO MUCH curry.

BDC is the dell storage bangalore design center. ALthough they call themselves design center, they havent designed anything. They do sustenance work for equalogic and compellent products fixing some bugs. They cant even do this job straight and recently they have messed up big time where they had to recall releases which were shipped.
First hand knowledge of a small number of people in multiple offices. Saw MD's Linked In post about valuing "our people." Laughed.

It is good to weed out non productive people. You can end up in a situation similar to how it is in BDC Storage. The senile directors spend time playing video games and watching YouTube all day. Their main talent is doing politics and harassing people.

This is a common play at the legacy tech firms: layoff experienced, but more expensive workers and replace them with cheap, clueless grads.
An NCG is a cheap way of replacing experienced workers. MD has no long term vision for the company other than trying to pay down the astronomical debt. As I said, Dell does not innovate, so why keep people around with the experience to really innovate? Dell/EMC storage is very outdated, and there appears to be no emphasis on updating it, and it doesn't take senior engineers to use Intel reference designs to come out with the next generation of servers, so Dell is left with laptops that are designed by sub-contractors, that most people don't need as the market is saturated, and the small incremental improvements don't justify the cost of replacing existing units.
Have to ask, what is an NCG in the magic of Dells world?
Dell will continue to lay off senior individual contributors. Dell does not innovate anything, but tries to buy new technology or copy what other companies have done. If you are 50 or older, start counting the days till you are escorted to the door, as MD wants to replace you with an NCG or someone from India. Count on it.
