Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

We are getting an "At Your Service" and a "Backstage"....we should be good for a few years...right??

Our store is getting a "Macy's at Your Service" and a "Backstage" in our store this year.

We should be good for a few years right??

Someone wrote in another post a few days ago that....they got these things added to their store but their location still was closed for business in the end anyway.

Why would Macy's spend tons of money to put these in a store just to close the store anyway???

Seems like a waste of money and false hope?

Any feedback from current locations with these "add-on's" is much appreciated.

As stated before, but perhaps your reading abilities are lacking as well, this is a part time job. And apparently you were folding clothes as well before being left go...or fired.

Not stressing at all, merely curious. This is a part time position for me, and I am hardly an idiot. If laid off, I will easily find employment elsewhere. I have a full time job in another field, and am well versed in proper grammar unlike yourself. "Your an idiot if your still there", should be "you're an idiot if you're still there". Basic junior high English that apparently you failed. Repeatedly.

but why stress about it? your an idiot if your still there. Consider your position a "temp" job for the foreseeable future no matter what they put in there.

No customer who wants to make a return at the other registers will be turned away to do it, but we can suggest that more complicated things go to the desk.

Sounds like what I deal with every shift already! So, only purchases will be made at all the other registers? Interesting, thanks for the information.

At Your Service ...think Walmart. Returns desk, also payments, BOPS pick up, probably ship to store pick up eventually. Also problems with your credit account, complaints, etc. Every store will get one of these usually built in near a high traffic door.

I wouldn't rely on it saving your store or any other for that matter. They are focused on the online side of the business and it's s---ing up millions of dollars but they don't care. It won't be long before they'll need to close more stores to keep their public cloud work going.

Believe it or not, the cost for these investments (back stage and the other things) isn’t as high as you think. I remember when i mentioned “how much they invested in our store” to a supervisor once. That’s when he informed me that his team had learned how little it costed to building the back stage for example. Our backstage is actually the largest one in our stage (it filled in old furniture dept as well as 2 other full depts that were moved). Anyhow, it only costed about $100k to do that project. The kicker? Backstage is not that successful overall. They only have a good day when there is more foot traffic for a good Macys sale. Any other day, they can go hours without ringing someone over there. And the really crazy part is associates go nuts buying things when they do markdowns over there. I’m talking markdowns for things as low as $.97. That’s not a typo. 97 cent markdowns. I’ve seen girls walk out with purses that backstage tried to seek for $40 marked down to $2.97.

So as much as Macy’s tries to get employees excited when they bring this to their store, its really not all it’s cracked up to be. Customers just don’t see backstage the way Macy’s intended.

We are leased for another 20 years but anything’s possible. If the mall thinks they can get another tenant in the space and Macy’s wants out, it could still happen. Some malls and anchors have clauses that if another anchor store leaves then the remaining anchors can renegotiate And get out of the lease that No longer meets their needs.

It does not matter what they do to your store through investments. If your building is owned The company could get a too good to refuse offer to sell and figure in the cost of any remodel or investment in restruce to the store into the selling price.

If you are a leased location an investment in trying different things could be a way to see if they can turn around the sales and profit in your store before lease is up for renewal. If changes make a sales and profit increase may renew. It's all a guessing game.
