Announced: Change in Cyclone Organization

Cyclone the flagship product of mid range storage is true to its name a troubled and chaotic project. EMC leadership had envisioned this project as a means of survival during the time of the Dell merger. The best of engineering talent had quit from EMC already. What was left were the average and less than average engineers. Dell was hoodwinked and invested on this project ever since the acquisition. The project was going nowhere with the team not delivering and way behind on their commitments. Finally with JC appointment to head storage he snnifed the con and started demanding commitments. The creative cyclone management team announced yesterday a reorg in Storage by removing the current engineering head and replacing him with one who lead in charge of the previous product release. Will this help I'm storage bouncing back and team delivering value. I guess not. What do you think?

Dell runs a business terribly. They were an irrelevant organization who bought a stagnant organization in hopes to stay alive. Dell only know how to run their ridiclious laptop/server model business and has no idea how to do anything else, well, except lay engineers who are doing the work off and rehire in India. The main reason...cost. Ridiclious. As an industry we know a lot better than that and the fact that Dell still does it shows how incapable they are.

If Dell was really serious he should have funded a ten to twenty member storage startup in Silicon Valley or Israel to bring in storage innvotion products. The gigantic cyclone organization which has more directors and managers than technical staff and with all their b---s--- scaled agile bureaucracy is so heavy I am not sure if we will be able to do anything worthwhile other than publishing reams and reams of meeting minutes. PSI planning what a joke of a meeting and you can see it's results in the schedule slip by more than one year. These old arcane organizational structres will lead dell storage into extinction. Dell EMC is now like a dinosaur in hospice waiting for its end.

Best Junkies are working on DC project and they are doing data migration. Funny.....You can migrate your a$$es that's life time achievement for you.

BDC don't have engineering talent because recruitment is done on the basis of caste, region, relationship, friendship, not on the basis of candidate's engineering capability. All these are controlled by directors and their aids.

See the problem with the Storage array business both middle-end and high-end is that EMC never really cared about the quality of the engineers, their programming skills, competencies , etc. People were pulling in the EMC family based on connections , based on ol' friends acquaintances and very rarely based on expertise or skillset. This matched the corporate culture within EMC where the value of the company was measured solely by the number of arrays sold. People did not matter in EMC, everybody is replaceable my manager used to repeat. So indeed the people who were capable left long time ago. What Michael Dell inherited are some useless remains of something which no longer exist...

Interesting news. May be related to the occupational survey done a few weeks ago, where managers of the storage division were asked "who's doing what on which product". Who knows, maybe this is the swan's song of resource-draining projects that do not bring income. To be continued...

Completely agree. Dell should get the technology leaders from outside. EMC is an incestuous cesspool full of folks chosen from the old boys network. But Dell hardly is any technology leader to reckon with.

Dell management should layoff JB, CB and SS first if at all they want to see a turnaround.

Just changing leader won't ensure the product delivery and quality. It's still the same team. You can put lipstick on a pig and it still remains a pig
