Was wondering before I get a date to join , is there a work life balance at qualcomm ? Can someone share experience.

Are you guys kidding. There is none.

I assume it also depends on the location. India and China offices enjoy life balance in NA work balance in general

There seems to be a good balance now. See most of the engineers here surfing.

On the dot. Next time check out what when these guys converse. Either work or nothing else i.e stare blank at each other and non heads left to right , right to left , up down or down up...or stare at the phone randomly browsing, acting busy.

Are you expected to work over the weekends and late evenings ? I have a friend, who is always on phone or laptop. Is this because lack of job security or are guys passionate about work ? All you guys talk about work all the time or go blank ?

Wow...that's poor management. Demotivates others in the group and impacts team productivity as a whole. Company performance is clearly visible if you extrapolate this a company level. I am sure top management does the WFH thingy big time as well. Very bad!

If you are friends with the management, you can WFH often. There's this woman at my site who always WFH two days a week, no matter what. This past week we had Monday off, but she still WFH two additional days.

I WFH every other day, good work life balance in my book.

While WFH, I just log into IM and go for a walk, go to the movies, count cars, whatever I like. The WFH policy is very generous IMHO.

Engineering is generally a demanding career. As deadlines approach, hours usually increase. Many work long hours on a regular basis in order to stand out and get promoted. Demands from upper management for increasing productivity are met partially just by driving salaried employees to work more hours. Mature companies trying to wring out more profit do so by cutting costs (mostly through lay-offs). That generally means more hours for the survivors.

All that said, there are still quite a few people at higher titles who probably don’t even put in forty hours, except near deadlines with they have to be present to drive the team to work longer.

Very sad to hear this. Prayers for those family's affected.

How come this is not getting highlighted in the media ? Folks/Management who are responsible for this should be penalized appropriately. Watch Turko files ?

If you are working week ends and nights , what does the ACTUAL pay average out to be ?

Divide the salary by hours worked. (Salary = 135k, hours worked per week =70, per hour is $37)

and assume if you are family person with kids, you are not spending time with your loved ones. Children will grow and leave the nest while you are in the rat race.

I agree, don't expect work life balance at Q. I know one guy who got major heart attack at young age and he finally left company. In same group, even one guy died with heart attack....The guys who really work will get stressed more due to incompetent VPs, directors...

I left Qualcomm because there is no such thing as a work-life balance. There’s only work. They expect you to work nights and weekends and even weekends in order to meet their ridiculously tight schedules. I once got an email on Christmas Eve from a program manager demanding some task be completed by me that night.

Predict working 100 % and do zero work .

That's what qualcomm is .Every body predicts they are super busy but end of the day not much accomplished and too much time in non sense meeting.

If you want a professional work environment this is not the place .
